Cartoon & Us 2
This is a continuation from my previous post here . I know it has been long but hey, since the exhibition would be until April 2018, I'd like to think that I am still within the time frame to finished up my experience at this cartoon exhibition, no?
Once again, a BIG shout-out to @sireh for sharing about this exhibition in one of his previous post, I wouldn't have known about this otherwise.
Spotted fellow #teammalaysia Steemians
When we went inside the exhibition, the first thing that came to my mind was:wow, this is so...orange-y and...cartoon-ney... . I really felt like I was being brought back to my childhood where my imagination is at it's peak and anything seems possible, it was a nice feeling, lol.
One of the first thing I saw was this cool board consists of the students who took part in this project from MMU(It's a local university), and why I say it's a cool board? well, because it not just consists the names of the students but also their artwork, you can see how each different individual has created his or her signature style of drawing even though they studied at the same university and most probably got the same basic training in drawing skills.
I was mesmerized by the art and colour of this board. I think it is something to do with rendering and please don't take my word for it because I am not a pro (I have a friend who's job is to render an art or something like that and I am thinking if it applies to this as well.), I just find it cool so I took a picture of it, lol.
At first, I was wondering what is this about, and then when I followed the instructions, I realised, it is another cool stuff. The wordings are in Bahasa by the way and it is an instruction on how to see the animation of this artwork.
Isn't it cool?!
It was so cool that I kept playing with it somemore before I snapped out of it and reminded myself there are still many things to look about, lol. What I want to share next are mostly things I took pictures of around the exhibition.
Our very dear @perennial talking and sharing his knowledge about Steemit to MMU students, some of them are already in Steemit and part of #steem-cartoon community.
A very cute short comic
It has it's own animation too apparently.
Some interesting read about animation in Malaysia
THIS, is one of the most popular animation in Malaysia from my understanding, the main characters are the cute twins named Upin & Ipin.
the exhibition also has a brief history about the development of the world's animation
Names and brief introduction of our local cartoonists and artists
Hehehe, I managed to recognized one of our fellow #steem-cartoon Steemian, @petai.
I made sure to look carefully so that I will not miss out the founder of an awesome initiave ( #steem-cartoon ) -the ever so humble @sireh!
Another fellow #steem-cartoon Steemian, a very talented artist as well, we call him abang ( means big brother ) @abgmie.
Art by @abgmie, sorry for the blurry picture, it was fine when I uploaded it. T^T
@abgmie and his artwork, it's the smaller version from the video I took above.
Then there is the living legend. The master of @sireh 's master. I was told that during those days when digital cameras or video recorders weren't a thing in Malaysia yet, Mr. Jaafer Taib would venture into the forest (yes, we still do have forest in Malaysia), studies the animal's movements and does his paintings there. He would also take photos of the animals using the old film cameras and bring it back to print so that he can then draw it at home. He would then find out more about that certain animal or breed and write a brief description alongside his artwork. @abgmie showed us a painting of a life-like tiger Mr. Jaafar Taib painted back in the days and i can only think of two words to describe him-true artist.
The living legend alongside @abgmie giving a talk.
One of the most popular local comic magazine
A brief history about GEMPAK.
Other local comic magazines
limited edition goods from this particular comic edition
Apparently this is the original workplace setting for LAT, who is famous for KAMPUNG BOY, part of almost every Malaysian's childhood memories.
The exhibition also displayed a few limited edition Kampung Boy goods.
With fellow Steemian, @calebleejl ,do check out his blog...he posts very good contents and he plays music... ...
I shall be ending here as my post is getting too long and my laptop is dying on me soon, lol. But I would really encourage those who can visit to really come to this exhibition because for me personally, I had a great time myself here and I've learnt a lot about the history of cartoons in Malaysia. I always thought the cartoons in Malaysia seem to be the same but as I was walking around the exhibition, I realised, I was so wrong.
Once again,
If you would like to know more about this exhibition, do read up this post from @sireh and do come and visit this exhibition because it will be around only 'til April 2018!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
