Josie Rizal (TEKKEN 7) - Butterfly Edge
Bah! It's been too long....
Anyways, time to practice more on character poses, particularly action poses. And this time I'm practicing female poses, since I'm kinda used to do male poses for action all the time, and it's been a while since I do female character action poses...
Anyways, here's the art.
For those who don't know, Josie Rizal is a new character introduced in TEKKEN 7 back in 2015. She's from the Philippines, and her design is mostly based on the Philippine flag. Her name is also based on Philippines national hero, Jose Rizal, which is...... interesting...
Anyways, I tried drawing her performing her Butterfly Edge, one of her command list in TEKKEN 7, though I do admit, for that acrobatic move, I should have exaggerated her pose more...
Anyways, base sketch!
Since this is an action pose, I really should have started with the base action pose first just to get the feel of it.
The sketch details though....
There's a lot going on. Though the toughest part of this sketch is definitely the flower pattern on her clothings, which is actually important or her design. Those patterns are called "Sumpa-kita", and I'm REALLY SORRY if I butchered the design. I have hard time doing detailed stuff. I even haven't touched on my Iban art of "Pua Kumbu" yet too... T_T...
Next, Inking.
Somehow, this style ends up being the "shounen" like anime style...
Basic colors.
Details. Especially them shiny accessories, though I wish I could give more details on those items...
Next it the butterfly motif. For this one I did it with vector graphics. It's is part of her moves name after all...
Then just put it in the art somewhere...
Finally, some final adjustments and composition.
She's.....aaaaa..... ummmm....
So her fighting style is supposed to be Kickboxing mixed with Eskrima. At first, that statement didn't look convincing since she's more like a kickboxer... until she start countering or perform a throw, which is somewhat accurate. Her personality is..... entertaining.... One or her traits is that she's a crybaby, and she gets nervous pretty easily.... cute...O_O...
Anyways. On the technical part, her Butterfly Edge, which is Up + LK (Left Kick), or just u+3 for those TEKKEN pro's out there is pretty good. It mid crushes and low crushes, which means it can beat mid or low attacks from the opponent. Plus she can sway this move by pressing ub+3(Up Backwards + Left Kick) or approach the opponent with uf+3 (Up Forward + Left Kick). This move is pretty darn good and quick but pretty linear. Plus using it carelessly and you'll get punished. This move is quite similar to Byran's Orbital Heel (u+4/Up + Right Kick) although personally I think Josie's move maybe has better hitbox than Byran's. I do say that she's interesting to use, but she might not fit my playstyle. Plus, I don't think I explore her moves and tools yet.
Anyways, time to leave her alone before Josie start's crying. Enjoy!
