Hey everyone, it's time for a new writing contest. For this contest we are going to explore the Steampunk genre.

What is Steampunk? I think the wikipedia article says it better than I could:

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power

So a Steampunk story will have either a 19th century British Victorian, or an American western style (or both). It will feature lots of Steam technology, Steam trains, steam powered boats, computers, automatons and other gizmos.

Gears, gears gears! A plethora of clockwork gears are often a staple in these settings. Steampunk characters come equipped with goggles, a wrench, and top hat and other stylish attire.

Writing contest

Ok, for this contest I would like you to write a short story, a couple pages, perhaps more, in the Steampunk genre. This story should be a post and you should leave a comment below linking to your post.

• No plagiarism please. This story should be primarily your own original work. I'm ok with fan-fiction though.
• Your story should actually be a Steam punk story. I've have a fair number of people in previous contests linking me to a random post of theirs, that wasn't in the specified genre and not even a proper story.
• You have seven days to make your submission, until this post pays out.
• Only one entry per person!

The winner will receive 10 SBD, 100% vote and resteem. I'll give some 50% votes to runners up.
