How about making (a lot of) extra-money using your skills in a totally legal way?
Steemit is quite a tech-oriented place, and I am sure we can find lots of great devs or even hackers here: So guys, this one is for you.

Today's pick is called HACKER ONE

They call themselves a Vulnerability Coordination & Bug Bounty Platform, and they crowdsource hacking talent to help companies find bugs in their systems.
Apple and Google are already falous for their bounty programs, and if the rewards are massive, the space is crowded, and the topics very specific (apps, phones, architecture).

The platform creates a link between companies and hackers.

Hacker One offers a wide range of bounties from many different sites. Any good developer or hacker can find one he’s specialized in, and make money.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

As a hacker, you first have to log in to the platform and create an account to access the bounties

Here’s a list with examples of bounties. As you can see, the selection is very diverse and the rewards very interesting.
You have big names like Snapshat, Uber, and even Pornhub. (so now you can say: * “yeah, I worked a bit in the porn industry, I made $20,000” *)

If you click on one of the bounties in the list, you will have the details of the missions.
This one below was asked by Vimeo and was solved when a user submitted a report showing what he could exploit the site and get access to restricted videos:

Hacker get paid for such services, in a range I have seen going from $40 to $20,000 or more. Hacker One also gives you a reputation score and you can get ”badges” to highlight your work (but we all prefer money! Right?)

Badges are cool, but cash is king: on Hacker One, companies can pay you $20k to hack their site.

MY EXPERIENCE:

I am no hacker, no developer, no coder, but I work in a company trying to restructure itself. Software is a new Eldorado for these (wannabe)former industrial giants, and re-building a brand image will require a flawless software experience for the customers. Hacker One is a great solution, at decent cost to track bugs and loopholes and make sure everything is perfect on the software side.

BOTTOM LINE:

For a dev, Hacker One is a great place for 3 things:

  • Learn stuff, develop your skills
  • Get in touch with the community
  • Make solid cash

The platform is not crowded (yet), as you can see by their stats. Therefore, it’s probably the good moment to enter the dance and starts building a reputation there.

Like on Steemit, reputation is everything on Hacker One.
