“Oyin remembered it all now, but that didn’t matter. As she opened her eyes, the bright
Halogen lights were farther up in the sky. They shone ever so brightly in her eyes until she her
body hit the ground in the middle of Kofo Ademola Hall. Everybody heard the thud, but she didn't".
“Lights in the Dark" is a short story which depicts the reality of suicide. Oyin, the central character, is a disturbed young woman, who teaches out to her close friends and family members, but, unfortunately, they're all too busy to listen to her. She eventually commits suicide.

After reading the novel, I realised that it's not all about having people around you who seem happy. Ask them how they're feeling, don't just ask to fulfil all righteousness. Ask and mean it. Check up on your friends, frequently. You'll never know who is on the verge of committing suicide.

I recommend the short story for everyone.
