RE: First Silver Unboxing!

in #ssg4 years ago

Hey :)
It's a great time to stack some silver!
One thing to note with silver numismatic coins (silver with high production cost due to "collectibility" and "low production numbers") is that it's best to buy when the metal markets are at a top (when prices are high). When prices are low, what you want to stack is bullion (low premium silver rounds and bars). Coin collecting is best done when PM prices are high, as the premium is a lower portion of the overall cost. When PM prices are low (like now) the premium is even higher than normal, making it very hard to recapture the price you paid. To make my point, check out what price you would get for that silver if you brought it to a local shop to sell it (unless you are good with eBay and willing to pay 20%+ in fees, that will be your main option if you ever want to sell). You'll be offered spot price (well, about 90% of spot price). In other words, only a few bucks for that entire order of coins.
It's similar to how it's smart to buy silver when PM prices are down, like now, and smart to buy gold when PM prices are high, like they were in 2011. Always buy bullion and silver when prices are down, and always buy collectible coins and gold when prices are up.
So like I said, great time for stacking silver! So shiny :))

Nice, thanks for the advice. I'm pretty new to stacking but feel I got into it at a great time 2 years ago. Fortunately I paid only a little more than it would cost if these coins were bullion grade with current premiums so it was nice to get them on sale. Gold is a little too expense for me to stack so only on rare occasions can I afford it. Thanks for checking out the shinies! =)

It's nice to save up for 1/4oz gold Maple or something! I used to have a bunch of fractional gold but it saved my ass over the years (rent, food, bills) when I otherwise would have been screwed. Now, I've got almost no gold, but a small stack of silver. Probably not enough to get me rich unless it goes to crazy crazy heights, but enough to save my ass again if it needs saving, haha.
Now, if only Steem/Hive could do well.... I went all in on that (sold my BTC) 3 years ago and it was probably the worst financial move I've ever made!

Yeah I hear, I sunk a little into it at the wrong time a couple years ago too... I hope to think I've learned and grown from that but who knows. lol
