48-TEAM 2022 WORLD CUP DISCUSSION ON HOLD

in #sprtshub6 years ago

The discussion of having 48 nations to compete for world cup in Qatar 2022 is out of the agenda for now as announced by the FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Infantino previously brought the idea of increasing the countries that participate in the competition by 16 but it has now been put on hold.

The reason given for this was that the FIFA Congress currently have no input for the suggestion as they are busy discussing with Qatar the number of stadium to be made ready for them to flawlessly host the cup.

Following the FIFA Council meeting in Moscow on Sunday, the FIFA president said that the number of teams to participate still remains 32 and nothing added yet.

He further made known that a meeting may be held on it but that will be within November and December.

In his concluding remarks, Gianni noted that it would go on to remain just 32 nations coming to the World Cup if there was no possibility of increasing it.
