On the 13th May 2018, Arsene Wenger, the charismatic leader of Arsenal Football Club stepped down as Manager after leading the club for 22 solid years. His exit marked the end of an era that has been described as "The Wenger Years" in the history of the club.

The pedigree of Arsenal FC is undoubtedly top-flight and professional in over 130 years of existence. Over the years, the club has won 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, 1 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, 2 League Cups, the League Centenary Trophy, 13 League titles, a record 13 FA Cups and 15 FA Community Shields.

Arsene Wenger contributed a lot to the club’s laurel table. Arsenal under Wenger recorded the following honours; 7 FA Community Shields, 7 FA Cups and 3 Premier League Titles. Wenger was also known for his knack for youth development. He favoured scouring for young football talents everywhere, attracted them to play under him and nurtured their talent while ensuring that they enjoy successful careers. He featured a long list of Africans at different times in his squad which included the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Alex Song, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayour.

Wenger faced a lot of criticisms from club fans and football pundits following several poor performances in recent football seasons but his love for the game kept him above negative reviews. Wenger replied a recent criticism saying “My job is to focus on performing and my job is to perform. It’s for other people to judge me. It isn’t for me to evaluate that.”
At the age 68 years, Arsene Wenger exited the club paving the way for his replacement, Unai Emery.

The 46 year old Unai Emery was confirmed as Arsenal FC’s manager in May 2018. He comes onboard with practical managerial experience and he is not short on winning laurels himself. Within 2005 and 2018, Unai had managed 6 football clubs namely Lorca Deportiva, Almeria, Valencia, Spartak Moscow, Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain. To his name, he has 3 UEFA Europa League Titles with Sevilla in 2013–14, 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons. He also won with Paris Saint-Germain the Ligue 1 in 2017–18 season,
Coupe de France in the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons, Coupe de la Ligue: 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons and Trophée des Champions in 2016 and 2017.

With millions of football fans globally who are watching to see what the future holds for the club with keen interest, Unai Emery has the big responsibility of improving on the past successes of Arsenal FC, bringing joy to the fans and ensuring that the Gunners Canon keeps booming!

Post-Wenger's era at Arsenal had better be great!

If for anything, I am happy Wenger is gone. The team under him had reached an anticlimax- he couldn't have gotten the team going again.

Now that Emery Unai has been announced as the new coach, we can only wish him the best.
