Manchester United's effort to recruit defenders before the transfer market is closed again stalemates. MU tried to bid Diego Godin, but was refused.

The central defender is indeed Jose Mourinho's priority at the end of the transfer market this summer. A number of names have been called MU targets, from Harry Maguire to Jerome Boateng, but nothing has materialized.

The latest news says MU tried to approach Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin. According to Sky Sports reports, MU had bid 18 million pounds to activate the Uruguay defender's release clause.

MU also prepared a contract with a value of 8 million pounds per year for Godin. The Red Devils want the 32-year-old defender to be ready to play against Leicester on Friday (08/10/2018) local time.

But MU's offer was rejected. Although there has been no official statement, Godin is said to have agreed a new contract with Atletico.

Godin was indeed entering the final year of his contract. With the new contract, he claimed to be staying at Wanda Metropolitano at least one more season.

Manchester United must now race against time to bring in a new defender. The summer transfer market in the UK will close today, Thursday (08/09/2018) at 5 pm local time or 11 pm WIB.
