SPRING HAS SPRUNG - THE START OF THE ROOFING SEASON IN NY

Spring has finally come to New York. After much anticipation we are finally starting to see warmer weather after a long drawn out cold snap. Along with spring comes the start of the roofing season here.

The winters here can be quite brutal on roofs. Snow and ice can build up and add weight to them. That can help to diminish the life of the roof. When it's springtime it's time to assess and, if necessary, replace. That is the job we did yesterday.

My son Joe (@bmjman2410) got his first roof job of the year. So he called up his brother Matt (@lokii) and myself to go with him and help out since it was a small job. He already had the materials in his truck so he just picked us up and we were on our way.

The two of them worked on the roof tearing it off and putting the new one on. I stayed on the ground doing cleanup. They had it torn off in about an hour and a half. Then we loaded the shingle from the truck to the roof. In the middle they had to run to Home Depot to pick up some more contractor bags for the cleanup. Once they got started putting it back together it only took about 4 hours to get it back up. I took my time cleaning the ground because it was my only reason for being there. I spent a good part of he day just sitting and enjoying he weather while they worked.

After we were done we loaded all of the bags into the truck (they were heavy!) and did a final sweep for nails and debris then we left.
I don't mind telling you since we got back to NY I have not been very active. I hate the cold and have only had sporadic opportunities to get out and enjoy this world. Which is to say I haven't had much exercise. All of the bending over and picking up took a toll on my old frame. I was so sore last night and this morning when I got up! Not to mention the sun burned face I seem to have acquired. I did not even know that happened till after my shower last night.
All in all I had a real good time just getting out, being with my sons, and finally enjoying the outdoors even if it was during a work time.
