The Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on Messi and the rivalry they have, he has also spoken about his relationship with Lionel Messi in an interview he granted TVI.
He outlined the advantages of healthy rivalry in football particularly and sports in general and says that Messi has succeeded in making him a better player and vice versa.
"I admire the career that Leo is having. He already said publically that he didn't want me to leave La Liga, this is because it was a rivalry that he liked.
He also revealed that his professional relationship with Messi was superb but has not ruled out both of them having dinner someday.
Their rivalry is known as the golden rivalry. At club level, Messi and Ronaldo have represented rivals FC Barcelona and Real Madrid and they have proved that no matter how challenging it was for them, it was every bit worth it.
It is indeed golden because it has challenged them, refined them, brought out the best in them and ultimately made them the best players.
This rivalry has actually gone on for too long.
Yes it has but it is supposed to be a healthy one.
They are both very good and the rivalry between them has been for good. Over the course of their careers, Sports journalists and pundits have regularly argued over who is the best of the two players but I must confess that this has not been an easy task. They are both too good.
Their rivalry stems from many facts, they are always on the opposing sides of a divide. Like they have different physiques and styles of play and also contrasting personalities. They play for opposite clubs etc. But they are equally fantastic.
