Hi all… Welcome to my post, today, I will be discussing an interesting topic… Can playing Chess be considered a form of sports?... :D… This is a really interesting topic and it has raised some debate whether playing Chess has some level of sports to it. While this is quite a fun debate, let’s take a little time to have a look at what Chess is all about even though most people know what it is or most have heard of it even if the person doesn’t know how to play which is normal as there are a lot of people who don’t know how to play Chess.

As we all know, Chess is a board game played by 2 players, a highly recognized board game played by many all over the world. The board of a Chess is basically a checker with squares of 64 in 8 by 8 grid, mostly colored back and white. The game involves quite a number of rules and requires a high level of logical reasoning.

Can playing Chess be considered a sport?

While some can comfortably say that Chess is not a sport of any kind, there are some that still feel that Chess has an element of sports in it. It is very obvious that a sport requires physical and athletic activities. However, playing Chess is more than just sitting on a comfortable chair with your opponent and playing a fun strategic board game, there is a lot required to be able to play Chess at a high level just like how a lot is required to be a professional sport player like football, basketball, cricket and any other recognized sports out there. Playing chess involves a lot of strategy, thinking, physical, mental exertion and it is all about competition against an opponent which is similar to other main sports, the only clear difference in chess compared to other sports is the athletic part which is obvious since chess is mostly played sitting on a chair with the board on a table.

In my own opinion, I would say playing chess could be said to have some elements of sport to it since it shares a lot with recognized sports except the athletic aspect of major sports. There’s a lot of thinking involved when playing chess, as we all know, playing any sport requires a lot of thinking and focus. Playing chess involves a lot of energy exertion, this is a major part of any sport. Strategy, competition, win, loss, draw (which is usually called stalemate in chess) are all present in chess, so for me, I think there are some elements of sports in playing chess whether small or big is still a debate… :) Thanks for reading.
