Arsenal Splurge £72m To Sign And Make Pepe Their Record Signing
Arsenal just confirmed the signing 24-year old Pepe from French side Lille FC. The pacy winger signed a five-year contract with the London side.
Arsenal made this announcement via their microblogging handle @Arsenal on twitter. They paid $87m to get the Ivory Coast International.
This signing made it the 4th signing of Arsenal in this current summer transfer window and also their transfer record in the transfer market. This deal smashes the former record of £56m ($68m) which was paid in 2018 to seal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move from Borussia Dortmund.
This deal has been dragging for a while now as Pepe has been in England since Tuesday morning when he travelled to Arsenal’s London Colney training to undergo a medical and meet other Arsenal players. But the deal was finally sealed after what appears to be a little delay leading to Arsenal announcing the deal today.
Arsenal's manager had this to say about the new signing when talking "Nicolas is a highly-rated and talented winger who was wanted by many of the top teams in Europe,".
"Signing a top-class winger has been one of our key objectives in this transfer window and I'm delighted he's joining.
"He will add pace, power, and creativity, with the aim of bringing more goals to our team."
I believe this will be a great addition to the North London club. And I am really surprised and impressed at the kind of spendings Arsenal have made in this transfer window so far. This shows Arsenal FC is ready to challenge and compete at higher levels,
Can't wait for the season to start proper!!!
As expected, since France won the world cup everyone want a French top player in his team.
