Azkals, grouped with China, Syria, Maldives, and Guam in the World Cup qualifiers

The Philippines is in Group A with China in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Azkals together with Syria, Maldives, and Guam are in the group's upcoming draw ceremony in Malaysia.

According to observers, the draw was favorable for the Azkals to be in the Asian Cup for the second straight time.

China and Syria are the top-ranked teams in the group where they are 73th and 85th in the latest FIFA world rankings. The Philippines was ranked 124th in the first round of qualifiers for low-ranking countries.

The third round of World Cup qualiiers advanced the top teams in every eight groups and four best runners-ups in all teams.

The Philippines are unlikely to move in the third round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after only being third in Group H, following Uzbekistan and North Korea.
