Diego Maradona in action during the 1986 World Cup game against South Korea in Mexico. Maradona is one of the best players in the history of the game. He is the reason why I started playing soccer. I began playing at the age of 5. As a young child, I develop a passion for the game. This gave me the discipline to work hard in order to become a better player. My parents never supported the idea of playing soccer. I was born into a Haitian Family who did want me playing soccer. My mother used to hide my cleats so she could stop me from playing the game. Well, the soccer field was only a few blocks away, I played bare foot anyway. At some point, I got discouraged and I stoped playing for a few years. One of my teammates made it to the Haitian Junior National team. This was very painful for me to watch because I knew that I was good enough to make that team. I felt that my mother was overprotective of me as a child. Sometimes, we have to give our children an opportunity to experience things on their own in this world. I love my mother and I don’t fully understand every reasons why she prevented me from playing soccer. Maradona’s talent was discovered at the age of 10. As a young child, he had two dreams , to play in the World Cup and to win it. We should not discourage our children when they have love for a particular sport. Instead, We should encourage them to obtain a great education while we keep their hope and dreams alive.
