in #sports6 years ago

Hello friends of Steemit, especially the football fans and the great stories that this wonderful sport leaves us, I hope you are all very well receive a cordial greeting. Today I will tell you the worst moment that a great player lived during his career as a player.

I speak to you nothing more and nothing less than Luís Filipe Madeira Caeiro, better known as Luis Figo, born in Lisbon, Portugal, on November 4, 1972, was one of the so-called galacticos of Real Madrid F.C. But before playing for this important club, he belonged to Barcelona F.C, his eternal rival, and in one of the matches between these two great teams happened that terrible event which forever marked the life of the player.

The facts go back to a November 2002 at the Barcelona stadium, "El Camp Nou", where it would dispute one of the great classics of Spanish football and the most watched worldwide. Real Madrid arrived as a visitor, but the 120 thousand spectators who attended to see the match, wanted to see a face known by them and now playing for the Madrid team. It was the Portuguese Luis Figo, who was returning to the local stadium this time dressed in white with the eternal rival.

The fervent fans waited that night for the player to jump onto the pitch, and as expected the reception would not be at all welcoming or friendly, as the Catalans did not forgive him the decision to leave the club and sign with his opponent. There were thousands of posters that the fans made with very strong messages to the player.

When the initial whistle of the encounter sounded all the Camp Nou came over Figo, the party became of a lot of tension and a lot of rubbing, which involved mainly Figo. The first half ended calmly with a partial marker equal to 0. But in the second half happened that unforgettable moment for the player's career.

After a play of attack of Real Madrid ended in corner in favor of the white team and Luis Figo went to collect it, the Catalan fans began to throw all the things they had at hand, from plastic bottles and garbage. After the collection that by the way almost scored an Olympic goal thanks to the clearance of the goalkeeper of Barcelona, he had to go to the other corner and collect again. And again it was seen the rain of garbage on the part of the fans towards the player, it was so embarrassing that moment that the president of Barcelona, Joan Gaspart, left the stadium for shame. But the most shocking image in that small pause of the game, was that of "a pig's head" thrown from the stands to the field of play, something very rare and never seen before in a match of this magnitude. Fact that was the protagonist in one of the most important games in Spain.

"I didn't see the pig's head, otherwise I would have eaten a little. I must also be one of the few players who had to play with 120,000 people against. In that moment only that worried that a madman could lose his head" -Luis Figo

"The decision to move from Barcelona to Real Madrid was a fair one, as I felt that the directors didn't recognize him as he deserved" These were the words the Portuguese gave in an interview. In this way figo became one of the first galacticos of the then Real Madrid coach, Florentino Pérez.

Finally, those in charge of the security of the match protected the player so that he could get the corner without problems. The game went on with the same pressure until the final whistle. The match ended without goals, but with everything that happened would become one of the most remembered classics in the history of these two teams and especially for the Portuguese player who never forgot this fact as one of the worst in his career as a footballer.

Did you know this terrible event that Luis Figo lived or do you remember another reception like that of this great player?
