The PGA Tour heads to Dallas, Texas this week where the AT&T Byron Nelson will be held at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

This long-standing event whose first edition was held in 1944 has a rich history and a long list of high profile champions including four time winner Tom Watson, two time winner Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and (of course) Tiger Woods back in 1997 in the early days of his career.

Although the field isn't the strongest this time around it does feature hometown favourite Jordan Spieth who will undoubtedly be keen to impress.

Trinity Forest Golf Club was only opened in 2016 but general consensus suggests that it is a superb course which will provide a different kind of challenge and a stern test of ability to even the very best.

With no rough (at least in the traditional sense) and no water hazards Trinity Forest is a links style course which was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw to encourage golfers to think their way around. Good positioning from the tee is essential and with the huge rolling greens a healthy dose of imagination will go a long way.

As with any links if the wind doesn't blow the course will lose one of its major defenses and low scores are possible... personally I like to see golf courses played as they were designed to be so I for one will be hoping for mother nature to play her part!

Dallas born Jordan Spieth will enter the week as the strong favourite. He is a member of Trinity Forest Golf Club and he had a decent showing at the Players Championship last week finishing T41 (-6) despite an opening round of 75 and a closing 74 which included an 8 on the final hole. He has recently suggested that he feels good about his game and in a field which doesn't include a whole lot of big names he will most likely be the man to beat.

Other players to watch out for are Branden Grace and Adam Scott. Both tend to perform well on links style courses, Grace's recent form is solid and Scott is showing signs that he might be returning to his best.

It should be an exciting week of golf ahead on a very different kind of golf course. Hopefully the wind will blow and we'll get to see what these guys are really made of!

For an in-depth look at who should do well this week and why I would highly recommend Ben Coley's (Sporting Life) betting preview which you can find here.
