UFC Rankings Report 04/19

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Before the rankings get a nice shake up this weekend, lets take a look at where we stand division by division starting from the lightest and working our way up, I'll give a brief thought on the state of each division and where I see it going in the near future.

The women's Strawweight Division has had a huge shakeup in recent times, with Rose Namajunas dethroning the Polish monster Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and successfully defending against her again a few weeks back, arguably the most exciting women's division at the moment.

This division is only brand new so I don't know to much about it, but some girls have moved from other divisions to here so it's looking like we could see a very exciting new division coming our way.

Formally the glamour division of Women's MMA, and Ronda Rouseys old stomping ground, Bantamweight has since gotten a bit stale with the injury of current Champ Amanda Nunes. Amanda is the real deal and the divison will come back to life as soon as she starts defending regularly again.

I dunno about you guys but I consider the flyweight division to be pretty boring, DJ has ruled for so long and he never looks like he is even in trouble, I respect his immense talent, but I feel it's time for him to move up and start testing himself with some bigger better opponents.

Arguably the most underrated of all the divisions, I think Bantamweight has really come to life the last couple of years and always delivers extremely entertaining Championship fights, plus top the top 3 guys are pure killers.

The featherweight Division is so so stacked right now it's insane, there's at least 7 or 8 Championship level fighters in the top 15, which makes Max's unbeaten streak even more ridiculous. Watch out for up and comer Brian Ortega, he fights Max next, that fight is going to be off the charts.

Definitely the glamour divison of the UFC at the moment, all eyes are on Lightweight to see what the hell is going to happen next, with injuries, court cases and all sorts of other shenanigans, it makes this division so mental to follow, never a dull day at Lightweight, it's currently run by undefeated Bear wrestler Khabib.

Welterweight is currently embroiled in a weird Interim Title situation at the moment, RDA and Covington fight for the interem belt in Chicago at 225 this summer, but current undisputed Champion Tyron Woodley says he'll be back from his injury in the summer. Once this division gets back to normality, it'll be great fun again. Watch out for Darren Till, future champ in the making.

Middleweight is always fun, I like a lot of the guys in this division and current Champ Robert Whittaker is extremely talented for his age, he fights Yoel Romero soon in a rematch, watch out for that one, it's gonna be insane.

The light Heavyweight division is going to be on hold for the foreseeable future as it's Champion Daniel Cormier moves up to heavyweight to have a crack at the title there. Who knows where this division is going with the pending return of Jon Jones and DC possibly becoming the Heavyweight Champion of the world.

The current Heavyweight division is probably in the best place it's been in years, current Champ Stipe Miocic is now considered the greatest Heavyweight of all time as he has successfully defended his title 3 times in a row, one more than any other man has ever managed to do, which is crazy if you think about it.

Thanks for reading, I'll be doing regular follow up reports division by division as things change, there's some wild cards coming up over the next few months so there will be plenty to talk about.

because the Lightweight division calls us so much attention? really there are others in fact it is very striking to see women fight but in Lightweight even the fighters have more personality and are always very controversial

Haha yeah the that division is full of so many characters.

Man, the lightheavy and the heavyweight division look so awful, that really sucks.

Ah they're not bad at all, Heavyweight has never been better in my opinion.

When the guy at number 2 is a guy who got knocked out over 10 times in his career and most of the guys in this top 10 are either quite old or way far from being well rounded fighters, bad is the only word I can think of. The heavyweight division was never great in the UFC but at least before the guys in the top 5 were alright...

The lightheavy is really nothing compared to the way it was 10 years ago or even 3-5 years ago.

The UFC really needs new talents

I dunno man, the guys there might not be draws like the Heavyweights of the past but they are for sure more skillful, Ngannou, Overeem, Lewis, Werdum and Hunt are all killers, plus of course Stipe, and now DC possibly. Also there's talk of Lesnar possibly coming in for a fight or three, that would certainly heat things up.

That's the top 5 in 2010

  1. Cain Velasquez
  2. Junior Dos Santos
  3. Brock Lesnar
  4. Shane Carwin
  5. Frank Mir

This top 5 is way better than the top 5 now in my opinion bro

That is an excellent 5 fighters in fairness, but I just think talent wise we're seeing a lot better heavyweights these days.

post of the day.... :)

haha Thanks man :D

I actually forgot there was a woman's flyweight division and had to google Nicco Montano to remind myself who she was.

I enjoy the woman's divisions but that one just completely slipped my memory for some reason.

Man I was the same about a week ago, completely forgot they made it a few months back, hopefully it comes to life soon. She won the title off of the ultimate fighter.

Yeah I have read up and refreshed my memory now. She's definitely just holding that belt for Shevchenko.

hahaha swear to god I thought the same thing.

Definitely agree about 135 being so underrated. It always seems like we have to wait ages for a fight a 135 for some reason but every title fight in recent memory has been right up there with the best of 'em. Not to mention the constant stream of up and comers. If DJ comes up it will be the strongest weight class in the UFC in my opinion!

Yeah man 100%, it's a great division, but like you said, the title always seems to keep it on hold, It feels like we get one title match a year if were lucky. IF DJ comes up it will proper shake things up loads, it might even make the Flyweight division pick up a bit as it will be way more competitive.
