Super Eagles Readiness Russia 2018
With few days to the start of this year's FIFA World Cup, top NFF official, Shehu Dikko, has described Super Eagles players as the best set to have evolved in recent time. Dikko disclosed this in a chat with Canada-based Nigerian journalist, Wale Ajayi, on Monday while giving an update of the team's camping excecise in Austria.
"Everything is good and everyone is shaping up very well. I must say this is the best set of players we have seen in a long time". "There are no worries as everyone is focused on the assignment at hand with togetherness".
The League Management Company Chairman also gave an insight of how the training excercise is going.
"Presently, the training is focusing on how to ensure that that players attain top shape and full fitness.
Meanwhile, Dikko has expessed satisfaction with the standard oc training facilities at the Avita Resort Base camp.
"The team is excited with the quality of facilities as well as the serenity of the camp site". "This has helped to limit any form of7 distractions in preparation for the World Cup".
However, Dikko refused to speak on the formation Coach Gernot Rohr may choose to apply when the Eagles take on Czech Republic in a pre-World Cup friendly on Wednesday.
"I will not want to speak on the formation or style7 Rohr would prefer7 to exhibit against the Czech because that is under his jurisdiction to decide". "But, as far as i know I think we have the talents to achieve what is desired".
He dismissed media reports that Mikel Agu and Ola Aina, who were dropped from the final 23-man World Cup list on Sunday, were in camp in Austria.
"No, they are not in camp though they have been placed on standby and given specific trainings to keep fit should they be called back". "For now, only the 23 players are here and that's all i can say".
The NFF 2nd Vice-president gave assurances that the backroom staff who missed travelling to Austria with the team after being denied visas will arrive in the team's camp on Tuesday, June 5. He also hinted that Nigerian High Commission in London has taken up the responsibility to settle the issue.
"The backroom staff are still in London, but, have made submission today (Monday) to the Austrian Embassy in London with the intervention of the Nigerian High Commission". "Hopefully, their visas would be issued tomorrow (Tuesday) and they will join the team later in Austria same day" said Dikko.
