Baseball fans around the world are all pondering the same question after watching game 2 of the World Series. Is this the year the Houston Astros finally manage to win a World Series?

In Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium everything seemed to be running like clockwork as the scoreboard showed a close game at 3–1, until the eighth inning. What followed, however, would be nothing short of extraordinary as the game took a completely unexpected turn.

What had played out as a very normal game of baseball ended up taking four hours, 19 minutes and required the use of 14 pitchers. In the game's defense it may go down as one of the most exciting Astro games fans have ever witnessed.

“Was that not the best baseball game ever?” said Houston’s 23-year-old third baseman, Alex Bregman.

Bregman’s night got even better considering the Astros won the game 7-6, in 11 innings, over the Dodgers.

A few interesting facts about the game:

  1. First and foremost, eight home runs were hit, which represent a new record for the most ever in a World Series.

  2. More: In the ninth inning, of 13 balls hit in the air, five of them flew over the wall for homers.

  3. Finally, there were more home runs hit just in Game 2 than in 46 World Series events.

Game 2 of the World Series looked like something straight from a PlayStation game set to homerun mode. And the most shocking thing about it was the fact that before the magic struck they trailed 3–1 and were trying to find success against a Los Angeles bullpen that had thrown 28 consecutive scoreless innings.

Speaking after the game, Alex Bregman of the Astros said “If we’re in a slugfest, my money is on this team. We bang. We’re the best hitting team in baseball. Their bullpen is really good, and I don’t want to sound like a [jerk], but our offense is really good and we’ll go toe-to-toe with anyone and win."

“If you had to describe our team by one game, this is the game.” But looking at the game from a purely academic standpoint, there's a lot to be amazed about.

For example, no manager had ever pulled his starter from a World Series game with only four innings of play, a pitcher that had only allowed one run and striking out seven batters, but Roberts made a gut decision.

All in all this game will go down as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the World Series. With new records being set and a surprising turn of events, one can only hope that the next game provides as much or even more excitement than game 2 of the World Series.
