The top 10 most played sports in the world.
In yesterday's post we looked at the most supported sports based on the number of supporters. We had a few questions in this post, so today we are looking at what is the most played sports based on participants.
We all have our own opinions, on which sports are popular and what we enjoy. There are many sources of information around the internet which have similar results. In my opinion, there are many sports that can be added to the list as it is very difficult to find the facts and stats. One of these days, Sports podium would be a great source of information for this.
Let the countdown begin.
10. Golf

Played by 60 Million participants around the world.
9. Base Ball
65 Million people around the world plays Base Ball and Softball.
8. Table tennis
300 million people play table tennis due to the fact that it has been integrated into schools.
7. Cricket

Cricket are played in 125 Countries around the world.
6.Tennis

This is one of the favourite individual Sports.
5. Basketball
The Federation of International Basketball Associations estimates a minimum of 450 million people plays the sport around the world.
4. Volleyball

It is estimated that 998 Million people plays Volleyball around the world.
3. Field Hockey

Again a surprising one, with Field Hockey being played in over 100 countries on 5 continents.
2. Badminton

This one probably came as the biggest surprise to me.
1. Soccer
Again Soccer takes the crown for the most played sport in the world. I think there is not many that can argue that soccer are by far the most played as it is played on every continent.

This is a very interesting article. I guess a lot of these sports are in the top 10 because they are played in Schools, otherwise I doubt they would be in the top 10. I love Badminton but it isn't easy to get a court so I was very surprised to see this at No 2 as with Hockey at No 3, but counting each player boosts the numbers. No doubting soccer at No 1 though, was fully expecting that.

No doubt at soccer the no.1 but i really think that basketball should be at no.2 or maybe it depends on what country your located at. Great article. May be top 10 Board games next time. :)
