Tabraiz Shamsi, Kagiso Rabada shine as South Africa outclass Sri Lanka to win 1st ODI.
Faf du Plessis had earlier mentioned before the start of the ODI that limited overs format is a completely different ball game.He said that many of new faces have been added to squad compared to that of test squad and this adds new energy to the team. He was completely right as they won the game comfortably in the end.
The Proteas reduced the hosts to a mere 192. Shamsi and Rabada both picked up a four-fer. It was important to contine with the momentum they had got. Amla and de Kock were off to a good start. But that was brought to an end by Akila Dananjaya. He picked up Amla and Markram off consecutive deliveries.South Africa must have feel relaxed courtesy the lunch break after 2 wickets had fallen.
Both du Plessis and de Kock seemed to have switched roles. While the former deciding to play aggressive,de Kock was cautious. He picked up an odd boundary when it was there to be hit and he reached to 47.
But it was one shot too many by de Kock as he eventually fell to Akila Dananjaya edging one to cover. Then du Plessis also departed trying to sweep Sandakan edging again to first slip where Mathews pouched it.
JP Duminy batted will full intent employing the sweep shot wherever necessary. He reached 53 in no time. But the main point of his innings was that he took 17 runs off an over from Sandakan. Although Miller walked back to the pavilion it didn't have any effect on Duminy who continued with same approach. At the end South Africa won without any more hiccups.
Angelo Mathews earlier in the day won the toss and decided to bat first. The conditions were overcast and Proteas pacers Rabada in particular and Ngidi took full advantage. They reduced Sri Lanka to a mere 35 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Thisara Perera and Kusal Perera are both known for their aggressive nature of play. And they exactly did that. They added 92 runs for sixth wicket.
Tabraiz Shamsi dented their intent with the wicket of Thisara Perera. Dhanajaya played with caution and Kusal Perera continued with his approach. Shamsi removed both of them quickly and brought South Africa to a dominant position again .Shamsi also took the last wicket and Sri Lanka were bowled out for 192.
Tabraiz Shamsi was declared Man of the Match.
