A grand entrance to the International scene

in #sports6 years ago

Just a couple of days ago Prithvi Shaw made his debut for the Indian team against the West Indies and he made sure not to waste any time to get his name in the record books. Shaw became the 293rd player to wear the test cap for India. The Indian side has included a few youngsters in the squad for this 2 match test series and Prithvi Shaw was given the nod ahead of fellow youngsters Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari for the first match.

Its clear that India has faith in Shaw as the 18 year old has only played 14 first class matches prior to this, but has scored 1418 runs at an average of 56.72 with 7 centuries. He isn't vastly experienced but these numbers suggest that he knows how to play tests, 7 centuries in 14 tests is a great stat for a test player and he has backed it up with another ton in his first international match. Shaw reached the three figures in just 99 balls which goes on to show the kind of cricket he plays. The first look at him says that he's a positive player who likes to keep the scorecard moving at a decent rate without wasting any time. Shaw finsihed his innings on 134 when he was caught and bowled off the bowling of Devandra Bishoo. This is what I talked about in my previous post as well that these Indian players play under massive crowds in IPL and thus feel little to no pressure in the International scene as well.

Coming to the match, Virat kohli was back in the Indian side after he was rested for the Asia Cup and wasted no time to score his 24th test century. Virat scored his 24th hundred in just 124 innings and became the 2nd fastest batsman after Sir Donald Bradman to achieve this feat.

Jadeja also scored a quickfire hundred against a tired looking West Indian bowling line-up to increase India's dominance over this test match. Pujara and Pant also helped themselves to half-centuries. Among India's top 7, Rahul and Rahane were the only two players who got out for less that 50, Rahul continues his bad form after he struggled in England.

After this huge 1st innings score from India, West Indies needed something extra-ordinary from their batsman to have any chance in this match but were once again disappointed as they slumped to 74-6. Keemo Paul and Roston Chase showed some resistance with a 73 run partnership before Paul got out of a bouncer from Umesh Yadav. West Indies would miss Jason Holder right now as plays spin a lot better compared to the other West Indian batters.

At the time of writing West Indies are 157-7 and would need a miracle to have any chance of saving this test match.
