Roger Federer Playing for Major #20

Roger Federer is competing in his 30th grand slam final at the Australian Open on Sunday at 7:30pm Melbourne time (3:30am EST). Since returning to the court last year his tennis career has been reborn ending 2017 with a 52-5 record and adding 7 titles with 2 of them being major championships.

This year Federer faces Marin Cilic whom he beat in the finals of Wimbledon last year. At Wimbledon Cilic was battling issues with blisters that made for an uninteresting 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 win by Federer.

Federer holds the advantage in their head to head with 8 wins and 1 loss. Four of those nine matches were played in the majors. Cilic’s lone win came in a semi-final match at the US Open in 2014. If you watched that match Cilic completely dominated in a brisk 1 hour and 45 minute match.

Cilic has been playing very well this tournament. If he can play anywhere near the level he played in that 2014 US Open match it should be a very close final.
