UCL Round Of 16 Match-day Preview Barcelona vs Chelsea & Besiktas vs Bayern
WHO IS GOING TO THE NEXT ROUND by @queku
PREVIEW- BARCELONA VS CHELSEA
Chelsea and Barcelona will be meeting for the 12th time in European competition this evening. Today will be the first time Chelsea have visited the Camp Nou in six years and the last doing they won the Champions League (CL) for the first time.
Chelsea having held Barcelona to a draw in the first leg, Chelsea maintained their slight edge over Barcelona in the all-time stakes (W4, D4, and L3) but unfortunately for Chelsea, none of those wins have been gained at the Catalans home.
Barcelona are currently in the midst of a 12-game undefeated run in all competitions, in which they have scored 26 and conceded just five.
Many experts believe that being at home second has its advantages. For Barcelona this is usually the case, with the Catalan club progressing on seven out of the last ten occasions they have hosted the second-leg of a CL tie.
These are some players to watch; Eden Hazard and Lionel Messi.
Lionel Messi: The 30 year’s old forward finally broke his personal drought against Chelsea in the first-leg, and he knows better than anyone how to negotiate a European knockout tie.
Eden Hazard: The Chelsea’s star all-round attacking player. He has 15 goals and six assists this season, including six goals in his last nine matches across all competitions.
Five of the last six matches between these two sides have ended in a draw. Only two of the last eight have seen over 2.5 goals scored.
PREVIEW- BESIKTAS VS BAYERN MUNICH
Bayern Munich already have one foot in the last eight of the Champions League (CL) after an imperious display in Munich over their opponents Besiktas. It would take an improbable capitulation by the German-Side not to advance from the round of 16 for the seventh season running.
Two goals each from Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski, along with a goal from Kingsley Coman, saw the Bavarians storm to a five-goal advantage in the first-leg. Bayern Munich are widely expected to finish the tie off in Turkey this evening.
Bayern’s round of 16 record in the CL is very impressive (W10, L3); they have not tasted defeat at this stage of the competition since an away-goals loss to Inter Milan back in the 2010/2011 season.
Besiktas won 1-0 at Genclerbirligi over the weekend, but it would be difficult for them to stop their in-form visitors who have scored a remarkable total of 28 goals in their last six round-of-16 games.
These are some Players to watch: Robert Lewandoski and Anderson Talisca
Robert Lewandoski: With his brace the 1st leg, The 29 year’s old striker has now scored 16 goals in his last 16 CL games.
Anderson Talisca: The young Brazilian has scored two goals in his last three games for Besiktas since the 1st leg fixture against Bayern and can do well in front of the home crowd.
Bayern have won their last five matches in the CL, scoring a minimum of two goals in each of them.
Expect complete dominance from Bayern. There have been over 2.5 goals scored in the Bavarians’ last 11 games in the CL.
