Next is the quarterfinals between U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq which takes place at 18:30 on January 20, 2018 (in Vietnam time) at Changshu Stadium, China. Experts rated U23 Vietnam as weaker than the opponent in all aspects. They do not believe our boys can beat the boys of Iraq. But in the end, the impossible has become possible. After 120 minutes of chasing the tense score, Vietnam beat Iraq 3-3, forcing the two teams into the penalty shootout. Here, U23 Vietnam won the final 5-3 against rivals Iraq, won the ticket to the semi-finals with U23 Quatar.

Next came the semi-final between U23 Vietnam and U23 Quatar took place on 15:00 on January 23, at Changzhou Stadium, China. Quatar is a strong opponent from Southwest Asia.
