Eighth round of the Champions League Finals Analysis
Juventus-Tottenham
It was statistically very probable that Juventus would receive English training. Out of the eight possible teams, not being able to play against Rome and Barcelona, in the remaining six teams no less than four belonged to the Premier. So it was, therefore, for Juventus that at the Eighths of Final if it will have to see it against Pochettino's team.
Opponent not easy but not impossible to overcome. Tottenham comes from an excellent European course (it finished its first round in first place overcoming the obstacle Real Madrid without any problems) and from a Premier a bit troubled (currently they are sixth in the standings).
Basilea-Manchester City
The draw smiles at the City of Guardiola who, after winning his own group (where Sarri's Naples was also present), will have to see it against the Swiss formation.
Basel comes from a great group. Inserted together with the other team from Manchester, he finished in second place winning his own personal duel against Cska Moscow.
Porto-Liverpool
Kloop can be satisfied. Having avoided the possibility of playing the Octaves against Real Madrid, Bayern Monaco and Juventus, the English formation will have to see it against the Portuguese of Porto. The reds have won their grouping by coming first in a group composed of Seville, Spartak Moscow and Maribor. The Portuguese, on the other hand, closed second by snatching the qualification to Leipzig, which was relegated to the Europa League. The challenge between the two formations will be very interesting with the English team that starts favoured anyway.
Sivigilia-Manchester United
After passing the group without major problems, the Manchester United of Mourinho finds Seville on its way. The Spaniards come from a rather particular path, but ended up with the conquest of second place, ending behind Liverpool.
Real Madrid-Paris Saint Germain
It is one of the two great challenges of these Eighths of Final. Unfortunately, one between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German will have to abandon the competition already at the Octaves. The French, favoured together with the City for the final victory, have overthrown their own elimination round, arriving first to equal points with Bayern Munich (with the latter having arrived second for the goal difference).
Real Madrid is not going through a very positive moment. He closed his group in second place and is currently disappointing expectations in the league (it is fourth). But in Europe we are not fooling. The Real is the team that won the last two editions of the Champions League and wants to repeat itself again this year.
Shaktar Donetsk-Roma
Not fishing Bayern Munich and Real Madrid was one of the main goals of Roma. The Giallorossi will have to play against Shakhtar Donetsk, who finished second in the same group as Manchester City and Naples. The Ukrainians managed to eliminate Sarri's team by beating her at home in the first match and also managing to win the last decisive challenge against the City.
Roma came from an excellent qualifying round, finishing in first place despite not being among the favourites (Chealsea and Atletico Madrid were in the same group).
Chelsea-Barcelona
For those who love football, Chealsea-Barcelona cannot be a challenge like any other. The two teams have often met in this competition, giving a lot of emotions. Iniesta's goal in the final, Ronaldinho's magic or the semi-final won with Torres' goal at Camp Nou... are just three of the magical memories that this race has given the whole world. Now the two formations will already meet at the Octaves of Finale and only one of the two will be able to go on.
Bayern Munich-Besiktas
Bayern Munich has taken the most "affordable" of the opponents in the first band. But beware, this Besiktas may surprise. He closed his group in first place by overtaking Porto, Leipzig and Monaco, the latter being one of the semi-finalists of last year. It's the first Turkish formation that managed to win a group in the history of the Champions League. Bayern, for its part, finished second in the group only for having found Paris Saint-German in Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani on its own road.
