Former referee Tim Donaghy denounces what happened in the 2006 finals
Tim Donaghy, former NBA referee who once led a case of arbitral corruption and illegal gambling, has assured the American media that the League manipulated the 2006 Finals for the Miami Heat to take the ring to the detriment of the Dallas Mavericks.
"Dallas was in charge in the tie. The tendency of the NBA then was to lengthen the series. They reviewed plays that they thought were beneficial for Miami, but that ended up being pitched in favor of the Mavericks. So they began to instruct the referees to look at certain things, "he explains.
Basically Dallas got a ring because the NBA started to manipulate the tie so that it would go on. The Mavs could never recover from that, "he finished.
