3-Way Title Showdown in 2018?
Three years of Mercedes dominance came to an end with the victory for Ferrari in Melbourne, and with that victory rose a new threat for the defending champion Mercedes.
Ferrari, from being the worst team of 2016 season, rose as a genuine title contender this season. Right from pre-season testing it was clear that Ferrari have made a huge progress and might be a better team than Mercedes, but the guys at Scuderia played down the hypes that Ferrari might look strong but Mercedes is still the better car, but on the other side the Silver Arrows were completely aware of the threat from the prancing stallion.
As the season begun with the first race in Melbourne, the pace of the Red car was exceptional, both in Qualifying and in Race, and as a result came the first victory for Scuderia Ferrari since Singapore 2015. And that’s where the fight between Mercedes and Ferrari got underway.
Vettel led the championship for the majority of the season, but everything changed when two Ferraris and the RedBull of Max collided in the turn 1 incident at Singapore, forcing all three of them out of the race.
and then Vettel starting the Malaysian GP from the back of the grid after not being able to compete in quali for power issues.
and the most painful was a DNF because of a silly spark plug problem in Suzuka.
With these three disastrous races, the challenge from prancing stallion came to end, and Mercedes first celebrated the constructors title and then clinched the WDC in Mexico.
And RedBull, who had an exceptional season in 2016, winning two races (Spain and Malaysia) and finishing 2nd in WCC with 468 points, were expecting to be more stronger in 2017 with rules changes. But their season started with disappointment because they were nowhere even near the Ferrari and Mercedes. After working days and night on the development on their car, RedBull now have a race winner car which they proved in Azerbaijan, Malaysia and recently in Mexico.
But still they have a lot of ground to make up to challenge for the championship, But they are confident that they will be better in 2018 season.
Since there are no major rules changes going into the 2018, except for Halo, it is expected that non of these three teams will fall behind in race for the championship, Mercedes who have the major engine advantage will be trying to sort out their diva for not performing on some of the tracks, while Ferrari will be trying their best to improve their power unit and making sure they start ahead of the Mercedes in 2018, The Redbull will give everything they have to be among the title contenders in 2018. There might be some time in the start of new season but we can already feel the heat and excitness for the 2018 season of the Formula 1 World Championship.
The question is who will rise in 2018? will it be Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel or Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton or will RedBull guys get it right this time? As we wait for the season to begin.
