While Crying, Iniesta Announces Retirement from Barcelona
Andres Iniesta confirmed retirement plan from Barcelona FC at the end of the 2017/2018 season. Mainstay midfielder El Barca promised not to join any team after retirement.
Iniesta has 22 years joined Barcelona. In the last 16 seasons, the Spanish midfielder strengthened the first team. He has played 669 games, made 57 goals and won eight La Liga titles.
Iniesta also contributed six Copa del Rey titles, 7 Super Copa Spanish, 4 Champions League trophies, 3 Spanish Super Cups and three Inter-Club World Cup trophies.
"This press conference to convey that this became my last season in Barcelona.After 22 years here, I know the meaning of being a player in the world's best teams," Iniesta said tearfully during a press conference in Ciutat Esportiva.
"If I imagine how my career should end, now is the right time, it's really hard to get a career out here, but to stay on the best level is tough," said the 33-year-old.
Iniesta has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in the United States and the Super League of China. When asked about his next move, he replied "This season is not over yet," he said.
