Day nine was a free day for all competitors of Dakar. It's really hard rally where you must have 'animal' mental and physical power.
So, day nine was full of controversy with Sainz sr (Peugeot) given 10 minutes penalty for unsure overtaking of a Koolen's quad. Now it was 'all or nothing' for Peterhansel (Peugeot) who wants to beat Sainz sr and regain a lead.
Peterhansel had a big fight with Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) but somehow beat him to take 2nd place overall.
Sainz sr finished stage on a 3rd place well behind Peterhansel and Al-Attiyah.

So, no big gaps between crews. That means everything is still possible.
