Lukaku set for return to former club Chelsea for £65 million
It has been reported that Chelsea have put in a British record £65 million bid as well as striker Loic Remy for the Belgian striker who netted 18 goals last season in the Premier League alone.
Everton, who snubbed off Chelsea's bids for John Stones last season, appear to be doing the same with Lukaku and it has been rumored that they have begun negotiating a new contract for the striker. Accordingly, the transfer would also include Loic Remy who could possibly replace Lukaku as he looks to revive his career. Remy has scored 8 goals while making 32 appearances at Chelsea in the Premier League compared to Lukaku in the last 2 season's scoring 28 in 73 appearances. The major factor which heavily separates the ability and potential of these two goalscorers is their age with Lukaku only just turning 23 in May and Remy who turns 30 this January.
What would Lukaku bring to Chelsea?
What Chelsea are getting with Romelu Lukaku is a young, prolific, strong and tall goalscorer who has proven his finishing ability last season. One of his most memorable goals came against Chelsea in the FA Cup which helped kick start a 2-0 victory for the Toffees.
So far in preseason, Conte has opted for the 4-2-4 formation although the arrival of Kante saw him enforce a 4-1-4-1 formation which looked to be successful against AC Milan. Lukaku preferred playing alongside Arouna Kone at Everton as he believed it allowed him to be "in a one vs one situation." If so, Lukaku will partner up with his Belgian teammate Michy Batshauyi or Diego Costa although he has been linked with a return to Atletico Madrid.
