Over the years, the Catalans and the Londoners have won five official meetings each and there have been five draws. But the Blues have only knocked the blaugrana out of Europe on two occasions. We take a trip down memory lane.

Champions League Semi Final (2011-12)

The most recent official meeting between the clubs was another memorable affair. Chelsea led 1-0 from the first leg, but Busquets and Iniesta turned things around at the Camp Nou. Ramires then put Chelsea ahead on away goals. Leo Messi could have clinched it with a penalty that struck the crossbar, and instead a late Fernando Torres strike put things out of sight for Barça. Chelsea went on to collect the trophy for the first and only time.

Following a 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou, Barça went down to an Essien goal and a place in the Rome final was slipping away. But three minutes into injury time, up stepped Iniesta and the rest is history. It was one of the most memorable moments in club history, and we’d go on to collect the title by beating Manchester United in the final.

Champions League Group Stage (2006/07)

This was the only time that the teams have shared a first round group. Chelsea won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge and they drew 2-2 at the Camp Nou with goals from Deco and Gudjohnsen. The Blues would top the group, while Barça progressed in second.

Under Frank Rijkaard, Barça got their revenge on Jose Mourinho the year later by winning 2-1 at the Bridge with a John Terry own goal and another from Eto’o. The 1-1 draw in Barcelona was enough to ensure passage on the road to Paris, where Barça would beat another London club, Arsenal, to win the trophy.

Champions League Round of 16 (2004/05)

This was the first of four meetings in just five years. Barça got off to a fine start with a 2-1 win at the Camp Nou with goals from Maxi López and Eto’o, but Chelsea eventually qualified with a 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge, Ronaldinho scoring twice, once from the penalty spot and the other a terrific strike from outside the area.
