The Misconception about lefties(My story)

in #spirituality7 years ago

It is really bad that parents of this generation still partake in this discrimination. Infact it reflects the primitive nature and backward thinking of most humans.

My experience
I could remember vividly how growing up in a Society were left handedness is seen to represent every thing bad.
My teacher then would tie our hands to a chair( we were about five in numbers). She would wait for our parents to go and then begin the torture, every one found using left were exempted from learning. Some corrected this but i guess i remained stubborn until i was bold enough to report her to my parents (even though she has sternly warned that any who tries reporting her will suffer a double punishment). It may be that i was lucky, but i still imagine how some still do worse things in a bid to correct this supposedly devilish act, when they themselves are the real author of evil. So hypocritical.

*The Origin

Left-handers were routinely accused of consorting with the devil many years ago and, during
the excesses of the Inquisition and the witch hunts of the 15th and 16th Century, left handedness was sometimes considered sufficient to identify a woman as a witch, and to contribute
to her subsequent condemnation and execution in the 18th and 19th Century.
Despite the limited reforms of the Age of Reason and the Age of Enlightenment, the 18th and 19th Century were particularly hard on left-handers, and discrimination against them became engrained and institutionalized. Even in the relatively free societies of North America and
Western Europe, there were cases of deliberate and sometimes brutal
attempts to suppress left-handedness.

This discrimination persisted until the 19th Century a popular case was
physician Cesare Lambroso, who identified various facial and racial characteristics with criminal traits, turned his attention to handedness and saw it as a mark of pathological behaviour, savagery and criminality .

Paul Broca ’s discoveries about
the lateralization of the brain in the 1860s caught scientific interest in handedness, and some tentative and simplistic studies were carried out towards the end of the 19th Century . There was another peak of interest in the 1930s.

Research has it that the right hemisphere of the brain which controls the left hand, is the seat of intelligence and as such the 10%of people in the world who are believed to be lefties tend to possess a high level of intelligence as proven in most cases.
