The End of Desire

Every personal wish is at it's heart a way to distance oneself from really encountering the moment. Whatever we are looking for in the future, no matter how noble or spiritual, even the desire to be healed, is just a way to escape right now.

We have great intentions " I want to resolve my own anger" " I want to treat people better" "I want to be happy and have a good life".

But hiding underneath all of that, is a big NO to right now. It's a way to get away from the immediacy of right now.

We aren't actually contacting the depths of our being if we are still thinking about how we need to heal or get rid of the pain or imperfections we see.

Even our hopes and dreams can hide our dissatisfaction with right now. The only appeal of all the things we want to have in life, is nothing more than the thought " it will be better when my life is that way".

When this condition is met, I will be happier and then I can relax.

This day never comes, each condition which is met only produces another. The experiences and pleasures of the world can be wonderful, there is nothing wrong with them. However, our attachment to changing the conditions of our life only is a movement of denying our experience and inner depths. We don't desire all of these things because they are good, we desire them because we are avoiding coming face to face with Reality.

We desire money because we don't want to feel afraid.

We desire relationships so we can avoid our existential aloneness.

We desire love so we can avoid pain.

We don't want these things for themselves. We want them because we are resisting a deeper call. We want them so that we are not confronted with the pain of our separation, and our grief for the world.

Would it be so bad to simply let go and let the current of life have us? To allow the current to pull us down if it wishes, and to lift us high when it is our time.

Do we always need to have something we want to add or take away from our lives?

Have we ever encountered what our life would look like without a single demand placed on it?

I would wager it would utterly take your breath away, to simply see this all , as it is.
