Time to boast?
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefor I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9
After struggling three times pleading with Christ to take the thorn out of his side this is the answer to his prayer, "My grace is sufficient for you." The thorn was never taken out. Each of us has our own weakness and mostly we try to hide it but Apostle Paul boasts of his weakness. It is through his weakness that the power of Christ can be revealed. People are miracle seekers and want to see a great change with little effort. Apostle Paul boasts of his suffering and devotion to his Lord.
Knowing that this grace was sufficient the Apostle Paul began to boast all the more gladly about his weaknesses. I have a lot of weaknesses and confronted some of them on the Steemit community. I don't have a lot of Steem. I am called Plankton. Starting out here is not easy. Grace doesn't pop up at you here on Steemit, but when I find the grace of Jesus and forgiveness then I find power to keep going. Then I find grace even in Steemit. Some great people helped me along the way. I really didn't do anything but post what was on my mind twice a day for two months but now I am actually making a profit here. This is grace. What can I boast about? My posts are so wonderful? They are sometimes cool and groovy or thought provoking but nothing wonderful. The posts I put here are personal and they are me. It is really grace that today I am being rewarded for doing what I like to do. If I think I learned something I will share it and get paid for it. If I find something new I learned that day I will share it and get paid for it. I never saw something like this in my life. If I make a useful comment the Steemian will sometimes give me an upvote and I share the profit only by grace. What I can boast about? Am I so computer savvy? Am I a great philosopher and artist? Am I a great photographer? Am I a great writer? There is nothing I can post about here that is not grace. This grace is an undeserved gift.
Going back to the Apostle Paul he pleaded that his thorn be removed three times but nothing happened. The only answer was, "My grace is sufficient for you." Today we face some difficulties like a thorn in our side. We ask for that suffering and trial to go away but it persists. The only answer we get it, "My grace is sufficient for you."
Beautiful post
I cannot agree less with you that His grace is sufficient for us. However, we must be careful not to take that statement the wrong way. We must qualify it. Remember that the same Paul worked extremely hard to propagate the gospel. Look at you in Steemit, you worked assiduously, posting twice daily, etc. That's a lot of devotion, passion and commitment to a positive cause. It is therefore only a matter of time for your reward to begin to manifest. In conclusion, I think that grace alone is not what does the magic. Work, hard work, must combine with it.
Thank you very much. In context he boasts of his sufferings as a servant of Christ. There were times of hunger, persecution, beatings, prison, loss of sleep and misunderstanding. The grace is given to be recieved but come with the cross of ,mission. I'm really glad you made this comment. Each Sunday I will share one Bible verse. Feel free to comment and tell me what you think.
I'll be waiting for you every Sunday. It'll be helpful if I know before you post. That way I can be one of the first to upvote you and make my comments.
By the way, I like your insight and clarity of thought.
Thank. We can spur one another on. I will take your name in the comment next week. @sungbojus
