What is a non-secular green kitchen witch?

Let’s break this term down. I self identify as a non-secular green kitchen witch. Witchcraft in itself is not inherently secular or religious. I view witchcraft as a practice made up of various actions and studies that vary from witch to witch. The way one witch practices will not look identical to the way another one practices. Each witch as the choice to keep their practice free from religion or based in religion and/or spirituality. My form of practice is non-secular meaning I do incorporate that which I consider sacred into my practice. For me this is a way of thanking the Earth for her role in mothering all of the plants that I use in my creations. I also work with the energy of the Sun and Moon. I choose to acknowledge the spirits of the plants when I am creating a medicine. I do consider myself to be a spiritual person. I am a green witch because I work with plants as my main source of magic. I am a wildcrafter meaning I harvest plants from nature in a respectful manner. I do believe that Earth or Gaia is alive. Gaia is a living being abundant with life force. I study the world of herbalism to gain an understanding of how to harness the power of plants for the purpose of healing. The form of magick that I practice is healing based. I do not use my creations to harm. I work with the intention of assisting the mind-body-soul connection. A lot of my work is done in the home hence the term “kitchen witch”. Each meal I make is infused with a little bit of magick or a specific intention. In everyday life this looks like adding certain spices or salts to meals as a way to affect the people who eat the meal. I mostly prepare food for my family and partner so I do this with love and care. I am always trying to work with their bodies both physical and emotional on a path of healing and nourishment.

Other way my witchcraft shows up in my life would be the building of altars and creation of amulets. I like to use elements of nature in my altars so there are a lot of crystals, branches, dried plants and other items that I have gathered. Altars for me are a way to re-set the energy of a room or my house. When possible I make them on the New Moon to signal a rebirth of sorts. My amulets are tokens that I give to my loved ones to keep them safe. In special cases I also create talisman for people that I care about. These are not necessarily for protection.

So for further clarity here are some things I am not or do not personally identify with. I am not a part of any organized group of witches. Most of my practice is done at home or while in nature.I do not identify with the idea of “white witches” or “black magic witches” which can have the connotation of positive and negative. I feel those terms are oppressive in nature and offensive. I am also not Wiccan or neo-Wiccan. I am not Pagan. I do not follow any specific religion or teachings. I don’t own a pentagram. My form of witchcraft is my own creation.
