Until We Can Read Minds, Every Friendship or Bond We Form Remains a Gamble!

Do you agree? You should. I'll tell you why but first I'll share what prompted this post.

I was replying comments on "With Friendship Came a Package", an original story written by me when it struck me; you never really know who your real friends are!

In spontaneous reply to one of the comments, I wrote "...Until we can read minds, every formed friendship remains a gamble...". The truth in this statement resonated so much so that I left my job at hand to draft this post. So here we are.

Think about it for a few seconds.

You've got family and you've managed to make awesome friends in your life's journey but how can you be so certain they won't turn on you in the event that an opportunity they deem irresistible comes calling?

"What did I hear you say?"

You said "they won't turn on me because they are family".

That, my friend is not reason enough. Thank God we live in a media saturated world so I have no doubt that like me, you hear the stories; very disgusting and appalling stories to say the least. Take a look at these exemplary headlines, will you?

  • Father kills his 4 months old baby.

  • Mother sells her children to survive.

  • Brother rapes his sister to death.

Enough listed.

Disgusting right? I told you so. Although these headlines listed are fictitious, you know very well that they represent the real life stories that trend time and time again. This begs the question; if family can do these to their own, how much more friends?

Friends with whom you do not share bloodline. Friends who probably do not know how your life started out because they met you midway through it. Friends who have their own selfish needs to see to.

Like those headlines, friends have been known to back-stab and betray friends.

Answer these:

  • How then do you know for certain who has got your back?
  • How do you know for sure who to trust?
  • How do you know that a smile given to you is for real and not pretentious or fake?
  • How do you know that the hand offered to you in friendship or help is not meant to pull you down?
  • How do you know that their thoughts for you are good and not evil?

Your guess is as good as mine; you don't.

There are no guarantees. There is no manual for forming 'real' bonds or friendships. There is no guide against falling for the wrong kind of people and naming them friends. In fact, you do not get to choose the family you are born into.

Hear me:

"Forming ties and bonds should be the definition of gambling. All you get to do is trust blindly since you can neither read minds nor live in isolation hence this is a gambling center or casino everyone MUST visit. You do not get to choose this time whether or not you want to be a gambler. Everyone partakes!"".

In the end, the keyword is T-R-U-S-T.

We blindly trust those who seem real, those who do not trigger warning bells from our sixth sense and hope to God they don't let us down because they really do have our interest at heart.

For an example on trusting people, you should watch and learn from babies😇.

Thoughtful write-up

You don't get to choose family, but you do get to choose your friends, and frankly, there is always going to be that one friend whose bond would seem stronger than even your blood- so to say.

I don't totally agree with the gambling aspect, but yes, its okay to keep an open mind...hope for the best and expect the worse- in friendship.

Thank you for sharing your insightful thoughts. As for the gambling bit you don't agree with, I'd say that even the best of carefully chosen friendships could go wrong. It is a rare occurrence with strong bonds like you described but it still goes wrong sometimes, so what are the odds? We can't tell the end from the beginning. We can only hope for the best and expect the worse like you said.

Yes...we are humans after all. Thanks for sharing too ☺

As you have said "The keyword is T-R-U-S-T. For me, in addition to that, both should accept each other's imperfections. That is how we (me and my best friend) did it without getting mad with each other. Truly your works are very inspiring. God bless and best of luck. Looking forward to read your future posts. You're now one of my favorite Steemian here. Thank you! 😊

Thank you so much dear😊. Your comment is quite encouraging and lifts my spirit. God bless you too.

Just read one of your fictional works on adsactly. Amazing stuff. Right up there with the best I've seen on here, since I joined. Trying to learn this art, so would be paying attention.
