El Camino de Santiago por la costa gallega

Hoy fue nuestro segundo dia caminando por el Camino de Santiago por la costa española.

Me desperté con el graznido de las gaviotas y con los campanazos que sonaron a las 8:00 de la mañana.

Tras el desayuno comenzamos la etapa. Hoy estuvo algo nublado casi todo el rato. Aunque no de forma muy intensa. La temperatura era suave, no hacía frío y menos calor.

En A Guarda, por la mañana, la playa está toda limpia. Hay un operario que recoge algo y basura que está que está entre la rocas y en la orilla.

Observamos curiosos como las gaviotas en la playa alimentan a sus crías que son de color pardo, pero casi del mismo tamaño.

El día estaba nublado y fresquito pero apacible no había nada de viento.

Salimos caminando junto a la orilla y llegamos a la punta del dique portuario donde contemplamos toda la ciudad y el monte de Santa Tecla detrás. Este monte estuvo habitado hace 2000 años.

Según nos han dicho de A Guarda, sus habitantes se quejan de que su localidad no avanza en los últimos años o incluso está peor porque no tiene buenos accesos ni tiene un buen parking. Dicen que no es fácil que la visite el turismo. Yo pienso que si hubiera más gente estaría peor. Es cuestión de alcanzar un crecimiento sostenible.

Al principio, estuvimos hablando de cuestiones un tanto filosóficas durante buen rato hasta que encontramos las cetarias.

Vimos a un lugareño agachado mirando algo y le preguntamos. Nos explicó que aquello eran cetarias abandonadas.

Las cetarias son criaderos de langosta y observamos que como están hechas. En un lugar junto al mar se construye un muro no alto que cierra el acceso del agua del mar, construyendo una especie de piscina natural.

En su interior forman con ladrillos unas especies de habitaciones techadas con acceso abierto desde arriba. El agua del mar entra y sale con las mareas, limpiando el agua. En el fondo de esas habitaciones se críaban las langostas.

Luego nos desviamos del camino para intentar proseguir lo máximo posible por la costa pero fue un grave error porque nos fuimos metiendo por una senda cada vez más difícil de acceder.

Llegamos a un punto donde claramente había habido un incendio, posiblemente el año pasado. La vegetación estaba volviendo a crecer y se estaba reforestando. Por este terreno de ceniza las ramas carbonizada nos fueron manchando la ropa.

Usando Google Maps observamos, más o menos, por donde teníamos que recuperar el camino y llegar a la carretera. Tuvimos que trepar por muros de piedra y también atravesar prados de helechos crecidos que nos llegaban hasta el pecho y donde no había sendero alguno.

Siguiendo las direcciones, pudimos recuperar el camino y caminar un trecho por el arcén de la carretera donde han dispuesto un ancho carril peatonal que está muy bien preparado, la verdad. No me resultó desagradable y avanzamos rápido.

Luego volvimos a un sendero que nos llevó finalmente llegamos hasta el Monasterio de Santa María de Oia.

Lo original de este monasterio es que está situado junto a la orilla del mar.

Esta edificación iniciada en el siglo XII perteneció a la orden del Císter.

Por su emplazamiento estratégico sirvió para defender la costa a mediados del siglo XVII cuando los monjes pudieron defender y desmontar un ataque de la flota turca.

El monasterio se empezó a construir en el siglo XII con el rey Alfonso VII. Inicialmente perteneció perteneció a la orden de San Benito pero, pocos años después, en 1181 se incorporó a la orden del Císter que influyó decisivamente en su carácter artístico.

Aquí paramos para descansar y comer. Fue muy agradable porque lo hicimos en una terraza junto al mar y con una visión sobre las barcas.

Después, teníamos programado ver el Monasterio. Pero para nuestra sorpresa, comprobamos que estaba cerrado. Luego nos enteramos que han restringido las visitas porque ha habido hundimientos en el techo del monasterio. Parece ser que ahora pertenece a manos privadas y dicen que como no le han concedido el permiso para hacer una urbanización detrás del monasterio, el dueño lo tiene descuidado. Es una lástima.

Como aun teníamos fuerzas, seguimos caminando hasta pasado Viladesuso donde descansamos y pedimos un taxi que nos devolviera A Guarda.

En total fueron 19,6 km.

El taxista nos explicó muchas de las cosas que he hablado antes. Por ejemplo nos dijo que el camino que estamos realizando se oficializó hace sólo dos años.

Por la tarde, tras descansar oí música y tambires por lo que salí. Resultó que habia un festival de música gallega y pude disfrutar un montón de sus actuaciones.

Today was our second day walking along the Camino de Santiago along the Spanish coast.

I woke up with the croaking of the seagulls and with the bells that rang at 8:00 in the morning.

After breakfast we start the stage. Today it was somewhat cloudy almost all the time. Although not very intense. The temperature was mild, it was not cold and less hot.

In A Guarda, in the morning, the beach is all clean. There is an operator who picks up something and trash that is between the rocks and on the shore.

We observe curious as the seagulls on the beach feed their young that are brown, but almost the same size.

The day was cloudy and cool but peaceful there was no wind.

We went walking along the shore and reached the tip of the dock where we contemplated the entire city and the Santa Tecla mountain behind. This mountain was inhabited 2000 years ago.

According to what we have been told about A Guarda, its inhabitants complain that their town does not advance in recent years or is even worse because it does not have good access or has a good parking. They say it is not easy to visit tourism. I think that if there were more people, it would be worse. It is a matter of achieving sustainable growth.

At first, we were talking about somewhat philosophical issues for a long time until we found the cetaria.

We saw a local crouching looking at something and asked him. He explained that they were abandoned cetaria.

The cetarias are lobster farms and we see how they are made. In a place next to the sea a non-high wall is constructed that closes the access of the sea water, building a kind of natural pool.

In its interior they form with bricks some species of roofed rooms with open access from above. The water of the sea enters and leaves with the tides, cleaning the water. At the bottom of those rooms lobsters were raised.

Then we went out of the way to try to continue as far as possible by the coast but it was a serious mistake because we were getting into a path increasingly difficult to access.

We reached a point where there had clearly been a fire, possibly last year. The vegetation was re-growing and reforesting. Through this ground of ash the charred branches were staining our clothes.

Using Google Maps we observe, more or less, where we had to recover the road and reach the road. We had to climb by stone walls and also cross meadows of ferns that grew up to the chest and where there was no path.

Following the directions, we were able to recover the road and walk a stretch along the shoulder of the road where they have laid a wide pedestrian lane that is very well prepared, really. I did not find it unpleasant and we moved fast.

Then we returned to a path that finally took us to the Monastery of Santa María de Oia.

The original thing about this monastery is that it is located next to the seashore.

This building started in the twelfth century belonged to the Cistercian order.

Due to its strategic location it served to defend the coast in the mid-seventeenth century when the monks were able to defend and dismantle an attack by the Turkish fleet.

The monastery began to be built in the 12th century with King Alfonso VII. Initially belonged belonged to the order of San Benito but, a few years later, in 1181 he joined the Cistercian order that decisively influenced his artistic character.

Here we stop to rest and eat. It was very nice because we did it on a terrace by the sea and with a view over the boats.

Afterwards, we had scheduled to see the Monastery. But to our surprise, we found that it was closed. Then we learned that they have restricted visits because there have been subsidence in the roof of the monastery. It seems that now belongs to private hands and say that as they have not granted permission to make an urbanization behind the monastery, the owner has neglected. It's a shame.

As we still had strength, we continued walking until past Viladesuso where we rested and asked for a taxi to return us to Guarda.

In total they were 19.6 km.

The taxi driver explained many of the things that I have talked about before. For example, he told us that the road we are taking was officialized only two years ago.

In the afternoon, after resting I heard music and tambires so I left. It turned out that there was a Galician music festival of Galician music and I could enjoy a lot of their performances.
