Mercedes tenía la costumbre de jugar con los gatos y los perritos agarrándolos con las dos manos por los sobacos, de esta manera con el animal frente al rostro lo bailaba al son de una canción del momento, o si no, le tatareaba con la boca la expresión: “a tuna que tuna tum”. La abuela Juana Asunción se expresaba bajitico escupiendo algunas palabras por entre la deteriorada dentadura: “a pués… en el maíz de las gallinas se colean las guacharacas… ya que Dios no le dió muchachito que bailar…”
