La enfermedad puede presentarse de varias formas. Es el enfermo el primero en darse cuenta de que "algo no está bien". Por ejemplo, tiene dificultad para nombrar las cosas, o expresar palabras, o comprender las palabras. Se desorienta en el tiempo, no sabe si algo sucedió ayer o en realidad fue hace un mes. Se pierde en lugares conocidos, tiene dificultad para tomar decisiones, olvida con facilidad. Debido a esto que le está pasando, pierde interés en lo que antes le entusiasmaba, y se deprime.
Los familiares lo notan cuando ya es demasiado evidente, pero mientras tanto el enfermo vive aislado y atemorizado. Es importante llevarlo con un médico apenas noten los cambios que está teniendo.
