Space-Communist Thought of the Day: 1
I wonder how much Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and other would-be space barons will charge for air and water rations from their settlement stores?

i imagine it will initially be inclusive in the total upfront costs. but over time as averages are determined most likely on a monthly basis. a lot of calculations will be done at first but of course will be a test from the first settlers. its fun to think about though! i actually know a Nasa atronaut training for Mars and i should ask her what she thinks!
I imagine at first it might well be all inclusive, however It would be wise for us to take a lesson from history and avoid capitalist industry based settlement or we might well end up slaves or worse.
slaves to our own technologies and pursuits
Or to private property owners? are you familiar with the history of company towns? I think there is alot to be learned from this, as it has alot in common with the situation settlers will be in if settlement infrastructure is indeed regarded as private property of the company that put it there.
are you talking about towns and communities that sprung up around industries? such as an automotive plant driving the jobs in a certain city/town? would love to hear your thoughts.
I mean tons created by industrialists to house workers where they held them in captive markets and generally abused them. Here's the short version.
so fascinating and equally horrific. america today isnt all its cut out to be in terms of the "american dream", but definitely back then it was a very difficult place to live and barely scrape by. my grandparents and great grandparents generations witnessed and lived through things i cant even imagine - even growing up lower middle class and very blue collar.
thanks for sharing - its good to understand history because it gives understanding to why the US became such a capitalist-obsessed society.
you'd think they would have learned there lesson but than again economics is not taught in our schools only propaganda.
