Let's live in space!
This post is part of an ongoing exploration of what it really means to move from a planet bound species to a extraterrestrial species. I invite you to check out my other posts on the topic and share your thoughts on the topic.
Today I decided to take a look at what other people are doing in the interest of living in space. Once again, I’m more interested in the human element than I am in the science and technical side of things. There are a lot of brilliant minds working on that side of it, and I believe that addressing the challenges that a non-planet bound society will face will in turn help out those that choose to remain planetside. In fact I think figuring all this out will be critical for our survival as an earthbound species.
So what else is out there? Asking my buddy Google about this I found:
-Asgardia Is developing as the first space nation. Late last year they launched a satellite and it appears that they are working on developing a governance structure. I will be spending some time over in the forums over there talking a little about my thoughts and will share what I find.
-Space Nation looks to be some sort of astronaut training app that can open doors to space training programs. I haven’t really looked into this and may try to download the app later.
-Mars One Is an organization attempting to colonize Mars and has recently selected the initial 100 volunteers to be the first humans on Mars by 2032.
-SpaceX Is the company that is currently revolutionizing the space travel and rocket industry. Founder Elon Musk has a goal of colonizing Mars with upwards of a million people over the next 50-100 years.
Looking at these projects what I see is a whole lot of science but aside form Asgardia not a whole lot of living. To be honest Asgardia seems really interesting but is really all over the board! Maybe it just appears chaotic because I’m not very familiar yet.
