SpaceX will make its first ever launch attempt of the Falcon Heavy rocket today - Watch it live here

in #space7 years ago (edited)

In a few hours from now, the most powerful rocket currently in operation will attempt its maiden launch from the NASA Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral!

You can follow the live stream on YouTube in the video below, or on SpaceX's Facebook page here. The current launch time is scheduled for 15:45 ET, and 21:45 GMT+1 central European time (Updated following launch delays due to heavy winds, hopefully, the launch will still happen before the launch-window closes). I will certainly be glued to the screen myself together with some friends and colleagues shortly after work and have been looking forward to this for months!

SpaceX's live stream on YouTub for the Falcon Heavy launch

Yesterday, SpaceX added the following animation video, illustrating the highly anticipated launch. A fun fact is that the payload used for this test launch will be Elon Musk's own Tesla Roadster car!

Musk also did a short interview with a CNN representative at the Cape yesterday. As mentioned by the reporter, all hotels in the area have been sold out and the area surrounding the Cape is expected to be completely packed. In the interview, Elon also highlights what difference the Falcon Heavy can make for the global space sector, both private and public.

I just wanted to share this with you who might be interested in seeing it live. Whether it succeeds or fails, this will be a spectacular view and a significant event for global space activities. At this point, there's little else to do than to wish the SpaceX and NASA KSC team good luck and cross all fingers.

I'll certainly be back with a more detailed post following a potential success or failure.

Ad astra Falcon Heavy!

Thanks for the info. I really did not know about this event, sometimes for one reason or another we forget the incredible things that are happening in the world, but it is always good to enjoy them. again thanks for your post! :))

Thank you @jhosespa for the nice comment :). I agree with you completely, especially when life is busy it can be easy on a day-to-day basis to not remember how many great things we are achieving as a species. I think we all need some time once in a while to remember how far we have come and just appreciate the epic journey we are on together in life :)

Very happy that you found this interesting. A big welcome from me as I see you are new to steemit and I Hope to be seeing you around.

Take care!

This is a great post. WE work about 15 mins from the Space X facility here in Torrance CA / El Segundo but i realize they are launching this in Florida. Can't wait to see this launch though. If you want to check out the Falcon 9 out of orbit fall out we got to see it outside our office here in this post pretty cool

Thanks for this post, really detailed. and looking forward to this launch.

Glad you liked it! You guys are that close? That's really cool! We were getting together with some people to watch the launch after work, but with the delays, I'll be seeing it from home.

Can't wait!

yea i heard about the weather delays . doh

Very cool! A few fun facts: They played "Space Oddity" by David Bowie as it launched.

Now the rocket will be used for sending satellites and other payloads into orbit.

SpaceX also said in early 2017 that two space tourists put down a deposit to ride on a Falcon Heavy for a trip around the moon.

So cool! Thanks for sharing!

Good catch! And in the back there's a towel with the text "Made on Earth" while in the glove-room, there is a copy of the book Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy :D SpaceX surely knows how to make things epic.

SpaceX has already delivered many satellites to orbit, however, now they can take large satellites to geosynchronous orbits and land the boosters at the same time! Or more significantly, take larger payloads to lunar orbit and potentially Mars.

Will be interesting to see if the Moon tourist plan goes along according to plan ;)

Elon Musk is one of my favorite people. His companies all do amazing things in their respective fields. I'm hoping that the Falcon Heavy launch will go nicely as I'm a huge admirer of all things space-related.

A fun fact is that the payload used for this test launch will be Elon Musk's own Tesla Roadster car!

He is so excited for this to be launched... I'd prefer it in my garage though :D

Agree completely! I'm not sure how good the chances are for them making it on the first attempt. Perhaps they will succeed with the launch but then fail to retrieve all three booster engines.

Will be awesome to follow though!

YES! FINALLY! :D
I've been waiting for this!
Science experiment never fails, we always learn something for future exploration or disconfirm the false theory.
Good Luck Falcon!
LLAP!

That is gonna be the fastest car ever!
But seriously, thanks for sharing. will be watching this.

O no, delayed, it seems? Another two hours waiting... well. I hope it'll be up there before I'm too tired to wait for it...

Hahaha, yeah which other car can show they've been travelling at 27 000 km/h? :D

I hope you got to watch it, as it was truly epic! Glad I could help you get the idea to watch it, that's why I wanted to share it with this post :)

Well, the day has finally come! Hopefully everything goes as expected and super explosions won't be the outcome...
Whatever happens, I'm excited to see it go off!

Damn! That was so awesome :D

Fuck yeah! :D

Wow, amazing ~! Possible it would be the first air and expensive transportation that can goes to another planet because SpaceX launched the successfully world's most powerful rocket. I can't wait to hear more of the results of this experiment.

Most of your post go to the moon why this one didn't :( peaple dont know what good post are. i support u

Hey man! Glad to hear you've been following my posts close enough to notice :)
It's because I'm sharing content I would recommend people to see rather than creating my own. Most of my posts take many hours, some time days, to make. Here I just put together 2 videos I watched during lunch-time and a link to the stream I will be watching later. So it does not deserve as much reward really.
