RE: Introducing Proudly South African Steemians (PSAS)
This is a good initiative. I could disagree with two points and be seriously misunderstood for doing so, but I'm going to do it anyway. Because it think it's important..
Is it necessary to add proudly to the name? It just seems we'd be better off without it. It suggests we started out not proud and have graduated to being normal. Furthermore, it may alienate some who for some reason are critical of our nation at this time. It suggests the group sets a criteria, that joiners have to by definition, be proud uncritical etc
While I know exactly what the objective is, I'm suggesting it may land differently on some ears or eyes.
I'd have preferred also, that there be a definition of what being an asshole means. If any behaviour is to be disallowed, it should be described in operational terms with reference to example.
I'd have liked perhaps to be part of a proudly African initiative at the same time so maybe a collaboration with other similar national or pan African channels may be good idea as well to gain a global perspective.

Hi @trumanity. Thanks for the comments and I do not think that you are being an asshole for saying these things. You are considering all the possibilities and that is great.
As for comment about the name. Proudly does assume something, you are right. We do have a Proudly South African initiative in the country which supports local markets. In the same way the PSAS group is there to support our local Steemers.
I would say that the name suggest that we should be proud, that we would like to be proud and if there is a South African that is struggling to create content that he/she or we are not happy with, then the group can help. Which would be similar to what you are doing now, giving your thoughts and offering advice.
Thus I do not think it hurts anyone to be Proudly South African. One of the creedos is that we do not talk or support anything political or racial. I think that those are the only reasons someone could be "critical of our nation at this time". Which is again a political thing.
PSAS exists to support and be proud of our local bloggers, vloggers, writers, photographers, singers, musicians and subject authorities on things that can bring value to the Steemit community. I am sure that other groups want to talk about the politics and the controversy and they are welcome to do so on their own groups.
PSAS simply wants to focus on art and having a braai.
As for the definition of being an asshole. Again you are correct. I mentioned this yesterday that people will want definitions. See the points list under Newbies Support? If I did not weigh in there then it would have just said "We will help noobs."
In the same way, we should define what being an asshole is. (@sigrfolkr see? Just as predicted.)
However, if you went to a braai and your friend told you not to be an asshole, he is unlikely to have a handbook defining what he means. Instead he will rely on your good judgement to know more or less what is acceptable.
We will definitely have to define what is not acceptable, you are absolutely right. Right now I think the previous rules to that last point are all that truly matters right now and the fine-tuning will come over time.

I see your points completely. If the term is to be applied to the content or other content providers, that's perfectly good. My fear is that it becomes wrongly associated with the wrong intentions. One can never know what people who don't know about the idea of 'proudly south african' means. I am glad to have come across your initiative and the non-political stance is a good one to adopt.
