Xperia XZ1 Compact is Sony’s star of IFA 2017

in #sony7 years ago

I am always very proud of Sony achievements at the IFA every year.
The flagship devices is well recognize by techies...

Here what you can read from the IFA reports.

We are delighted to see Sony launch a true Xperia ‘compact’ flagship once again. While the Xperia X Compact from last year was a good device with great performance and battery life, we know that many missed some of the flagship features such as water resistance (something that all previous Compact Xperia phones had).
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact announced at IFA earlier today is mostly a no compromise device. It features similar specifications to the Xperia XZ1 including Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM, 19MP rear Motion Eye camera with 960 fps slow motion video, the 3D Creator app and IP65/IP68 dust and water resistance.
It wraps all of this in a chassis with a 4.6-inch HD 720p display, including the same sized 2700mAh battery of its bigger brother. We would therefore expect much better battery life for the XZ1 Compact vs. the XZ1 given the smaller display and smaller resolution paired with the same chipset.

For those bemoaning the fact that Sony has not used a 1080p display, we have never found the pixel density to be an issue on the smaller Xperia flagships. In fact, we’d rather take the better battery life due to the handset having to work less harder, rather than the higher resolution display.

Sony Xperia XZ1 announced with iterative improvements and Android Oreo
August 31, 2017
Sony’s mobile flagship strategy over the last few years is to make small improvements to each handset every six months, both in hardware and software, culminating in the Xperia XZ1 announced earlier today. While in previous years, this strategy hasn’t been criticised too much, that has changed in 2017.

This is against a backdrop of flagship smartphones that look very different this year with their near bezel-less displays, making anything else look tired and old. This is the criticism that has been applied to Sony in the lead up to this launch, and we hope it will be in a good position to answer this criticism for next year’s models. Anyway, despite the small upgrades, the Xperia XZ1 looks like a good all-rounder with strong specs, if the design doesn’t put you off.

Sony Mobile has confirmed which of its Xperia range will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Sony has confirmed that all of the 2017 Xperia X series of phones will receive the update (sorry L1 owners), along with the Xperia X, X Performance, X Compact and XZ of last year.

The Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, while the Xperia XA1 Plus is also in line to receive the update. Sony has not confirmed any dates at this stage, but as soon as we hear anything further we’ll let you know.

Sony finally adds app shortcuts to latest Xperia Home Beta (10.2.A.3.47)
September 1, 2017
Sony Mobile has finally added application shortcuts to hits home launcher, in the latest beta of Xperia Home with build number 10.2.A.3.47. App shortcuts allow you to bring a context menu of app shortcuts when long pressing on a compatible app. So for example, the Google Drive app (as seen below) can show options for uploading, scanning or searching your files.

The latest beta also brings extended Android 8.0 Oreo support, supporting notification dots on app icons. Another small UI change is creating blur behind folders. If you want to try the update yourself, then sign up to the Google+ Xperia Home Beta Community , or you can find the APK download in the link below. Don’t bother trying to make it work unless you are already running Android 7.1 Nougat. We can’t wait to see app shortcuts hit the stable Xperia firmware.

Sony’s 3D Creator app is coming to the XZ Premium
September 1, 2017
One of Sony’s newest Xperia features introduced at IFA 2017 is its new 3D Creator app . The app can be found in the newly announced Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, but the good news for Xperia XZ Premium owners is that 3D Creator will also be heading their way once the phone receives its Android 8.0 Oreo firmware update.

As part of the same update, the Xperia XZ Premium will receive improved camera features including Autofocus burst, which snaps moving objects in sharp focus, so there’ll be no more blurred action shots. The other addition is Predictive Capture, which now recognises smiles, and automatically starts buffering images before you snap the shutter.

Xperia XA1 Plus brings bigger battery and fingerprint sensor to Sony’s mid-range
August 31, 2017
Sony announced the Xperia XA1 Plus mid-ranger at IFA earlier today, a 5.5-inch FHD device that will sit between the 5-inch Xperia XA1 and 6-inch Xperia XA1 Ultra. Despite the familiarity of the ‘XA1’ family name, the XA1 Plus is positioned differently to its other family members.

First of all, the Xperia XA1 Plus is the only device in the XA1 range to feature a fingerprint sensor, which has a side-mounted power button as in all other Xperia devices. Secondly, the Xperia XA1 Plus welcomes a much bigger 3430mAh battery, significantly larger than the 6-inch XA1 Ultra with its 2700mAh battery.

Thirdly, less emphasis is placed on front camera duties with the Xperia XA1 Plus featuring an 8MP selfie snapper, similar to the XA1, but less powerful compared to the 16MP camera of the XA1 Ultra. The Xperia XA1 Plus has a 23MP 1/2.3-inch rear camera sensor with bright F2.0 lens.

The Xperia XA1 Plus is powered by a MediaTek Helio P20, 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Other features include Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and USB Type-C. The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus has dimensions of 155 x 75 x 8.7mm and weighs 190 grams.

Sony’s design includes aluminium sides and a matte finish, giving the handset a premium look. The Xperia XA1 Plus will be available in three colours including Gold, Blue and Black. Sony hasn’t given an explicit launch date but says the handset will launch from Autumn 2017.

It features similar specifications to the Xperia XZ1,

including Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM, 19MP rear Motion Eye camera with 960 fps slow motion video, the 3D Creator app and IP65/IP68 dust and water resistance.

In terms of differences to the XZ1, the Xperia XZ1 Compact only has 32GB of internal UFS storage, which would be our only criticism. If the handset included the 64GB storage as seen on the Xperia XZ1 it would have been the icing on the cake. The Xperia XZ1 Compact also has a smaller 8MP front-facing camera (the XZ1 has a 13MP selfie camera), but Sony did see fit to add a super-wide 120 degree angle option to the front. The XZ1 Compact also does not feature a HDR display.

The Xperia XZ1 Compact uses what Sony calls a “strong, anti-twist and bend full-body structure with Glass Fibre reinforced plastic material”, so we don’t see the metallic frame seen in the XZ1.

The Xperia XZ1 Compact has dimensions of 129 x 65 x 9.3mm and weighs 143 grams. The handset will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, when it hits retail in September 2017. There will be a choice of four colours available including Black, White Silver, Horizon Blue and Twilight Pink. image
