It is infinitely more difficult to change and improve the self than to use force to bend the externals to fit man's whims. The former requires effort, discipline, humility, and wisdom. The latter merely requires energy and discontent. Much of the world's ills can be attributed to those men lacking self-discipline and virtue, attempting to enforce their myopic self-interest upon their environment, using obtuse force. The greatest evil lies in the minds of reformers and do-gooders who obsessively work to "fix" others, while remaining incapable of self-reflection and self-discipline.
Absolutely. It is infinitely more difficult to control ourselves than to control others, but it is the only way possible.
