I am glad that I happened across this post! @ashlyns, you did a great job at presenting a very real issue that many of us face. I have been disabled since I was 11 years old. A car accident paralyzed my left leg, so I have had to use crutches and wheelchairs ever since. I am an amputee now, but that does not make this issue any easier. People, for whatever reason, feel that it is their given right to be rude. Some of it is unintentional, but most of that is simply because of ignorance and lack of education about disabilities.

Do you think that having more public education on the topic may help? I have recently been seeing many viral videos about being deaf or having Down Syndrome. Would it help if we put out more videos about physical disabilities in general? Hmmm..just a thought. Unfortunately, if we don't educate others, they probably won't get it anywhere else.
