in #society6 years ago (edited)

Today I was in the house of a trusted friend, and for a while I wanted to interview him about how his life had been as a patient at Antonio Patricio De Alcalá University Hospital, since he had an accident, and today we were not taking our time on something important , we decided to talk about the accident, and the interview flowed very well, I changed a couple of his bad words, but I did not change everything, because if not, it would not be his words

A while ago, I made two posts about the poor state of this hospital, and today you will see how serious it is. The name of the interviewee is Luis Serrano, 23 years old. Let's start...

The day of the accident.

A friend called me to go to the house of another friend to take, I left my house around eleven o'clock at night, at the party we took until 3:40 am, and at 3:50 I returned, for the hour obviously I was fast due to insecurity, I entered a straight line where just before a bend there was a water hole, when I cut to get into the curve, the rubber back lost traction, the bike skidded, hit the island, and catapulted, and the bike too, and even passed over me, without doing any damage, everything happened in 5 seconds, but it seemed like hours.

I fell on the road, looking directly at a spotlight, I wondered if everything that happened was true, I sat down, and the first thing I did was put my hands on my face, looking for signs of injury, without finding anything, I checked my arms and my torso. I imagined that nothing had happened to me, and I noticed that the bicycle was about 5 meters away, when I started to get up, I did it with my left foot, which is strange because I'm straight, I put my hands on the asphalt, and I made my left foot, when I try to get up, my right foot opens from the ankle to the heel, I thought that my foot had come off completely, which was not far from reality, because only a few rows of the muscle kept still what was left of the foot.

I went back to sit on the floor, and examined closely, to see how serious the damage had been, and that was when I saw that the tibia had torn my ankle muscles, and now it was located on top of the heel. The second thing I did at that moment, was to look for the phone, which was half a meter away, I called a neighbor, who luckily answered me, I explained that I had an accident, and I told him I needed help, it took around 5 minutes to arrive, and until then, I felt no pain. Before he arrived, I put the phone on the floor, and that's when the pain began, a taxi passed, and I made signs, to see if it would help me, but ignored it, behind him came a patrol, the patrol When he saw me, he turned on the lights, and parked right in the middle of the bike and me.

Two policemen got out, a man and a woman, I explained what had happened, they called an ambulance which was going to take 40 minutes to arrive, and they stayed with me waiting, but my neighbor came with his cousin. Between my neighbor and his cousin, they helped me get into the truck, and then the cousin took the bike. The first thing we did was go to the nearest clinic, where they did not take care of me, because the insurance did not cover it, after that, we went directly to the hospital.

They moved me to the emergency area, I was attended by the trauma surgeon who was on duty. They put me on a wooden table, they cut my clothes, they took off my helmet and gloves, and they started to clean the wound on my foot, which had enough dirt and blood, I asked the doctor if I could put something in the pain and I explained that I am allergic to the aines, which means that if they put me ibuprofen, diclofenac potassium or ketoprofen, I was going to stop the airway, and if they were not the right supplies, to stop the allergy, I could die suffocated, he told me that he did not have a long tramadol that was the analgesic, that he could take it for pain, and he told me that he would do the red-hot reduction, and he handed me a wooden board, to bite it, and he placed the hands at the side of the table, to hold me there.

He tried to put the bone in its place, but the displacement was too much, it could only be straightened surgically, he put an improvised plaster, because there were no materials for regular plaster, while looking for materials, to put on the improvised plaster, It was the light, which caused me to get a very natural "damn Maduro". They mobilized me with the light, from the flash of the telephones that they had, and they told me that the equipment to operate in the operating room, would not be active, but until 8 in the morning, and it was 4 am, then I had to put up with the pain for four hours, and finally I had surgery at 12 noon. The first operation was to straighten the bones, clean the wound and suture. It was weekend, and weekends, and weekends specialists, do not work, and had to wait until Monday, to put me the fixer or tutor.

Interview.

  • 1): Do you regret having gone out that day to drink?

A: Sí, terminó así, obviamente sí.

  • 2): How long did you last in the hospital?

A: Five and a half months (167 days).

  • 3): How many operations were in total?

A: Nine.

  • 4): Under what conditions was the hospital?

A: Only one elevator operated, and in the hospital there are 6, there was no type of medical supplies (gloves, gauze, antibiotics, etc.), there was no water, the water arrived once a day. The first month and a half, the lunch was auyama (pumpkin) with spaghetti or rice, there was no security, so it was very common for people to enter the rooms and steal things, not armed, they just went in and took what they could, the toilets were literally disgusting, you went in, and you could find everything from worms to cockroaches, mice and flies, lots of flies, and the toilets were always full of excrement, of course, you should remember that there was no water, people defecating and leaving his shit there, it was very common to see cats and I was on the 8th floor, yes, cats on the 8th floor. It was also common for their colleagues to smell bad, due to the infections they had, and with regard to infrastructure, I must say that once, in the recovery room, the roof fell down and the operating rooms were constantly contaminated.

  • 5): What are the worst experiences you can remember from your hospital stay?

A: The first one is the cures, because they really hurt too much. When they removed the second fixative, they took it away from me in the room, because the operating room was contaminated, and if you think that is bad, one of my roommates was removed with a pressure pliers and saw how the people for infections.

  • 6): What were the biggest discomforts in the hospital?

A: You are in a room, with 3 more patients and the relatives of each of those patients, so forget about your privacy. Heat, the bathroom, I think it was the worst, going to the bathroom was a martyrdom, people screamed in pain every hour, every day. Covering your basic needs in the hospital is a daily challenge.

  • 7): How did you get your medications and treatments?

A: Absolutely everything was obtained in pharmacies, from a jelco to an injector, gloves, gauze, alcohol, and antibiotics, and everything was excessively expensive, and part had to run with the luck of getting them...

  • 8): Any anecdote you want to tell?

A: There you could hear the most stupid anecdotes, even the most incredible, for example, a roommate, who went to a farm to steal food, the owner of the farm discovered them and fell with machetes, the first he threw in the head, and instinctively put his hand, cut in a cut, the second, back to the head, put his right hand, and cut diagonally, only remained in his hand, the index finger and thumb, turned and tried run and the third went to the right leg, in which he made a cut not so deep, but enough so that he could not run; the fourth, he put it in his head where they left a large opening in the skull, lost consciousness, and the owner of the farm, gave him for dead, a few minutes later, regained consciousness, escaped the farm, and survived , something like a jungle, for three days until his family found him and took him In the hospital, by the time he was exposed, all the wounds became infected, and in the opening of his head, worms were born, he said They did not let him sleep, he felt that they bit him inside, in the end, they took him out. worms of the head with a clamp.

  • 9): What were you doing in your free time at the hospital?

A: Reading, watching movies, and receiving visitors, was the only thing he did.

  • 10): How has your foot recovered?

A: The process has been slow, but I recovered mobility, both in the foot, as in the fingers, and until recently they sent me to settle down, but I still need an operation, and then the therapies.

  • 11): Did you have any kind of trauma?

A: I think it would be difficult, after living something similar. Every time I sleep, I dream of the accident, and it's like I relive everything again.

  • 12): Any message or advice so that other people do not happen the same as you?

A: If you take and drive a car, it's a bad idea, to take and drive a motorcycle, it's much worse.

This has been all for today, I hope you enjoyed and entertained the interview, because I know it is not a type of interview that you see every day.
