Facebook Privacy Scandal

I am reading a newspaper this morning and this one caught my attention – Facebook scandal affected up to 87 million users!

The newspaper is The Philippine Star, dated April 6, 2018 and the news can be read on page 10. According to the news, data from millions of users were exposed in the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal. Cambridge Analytica is a Trump-affiliated data mining firm and faced allegations of getting data from users through an app in the attempt to influence elections.

But, wait? Are the Facebook users in the Philippines affected? On the news – Facebook says most affected users are in the US. However, Facebook already made solutions to all users – be it in the US or elsewhere. On Monday – April 9, 2018 – you, I mean we, the users will receive a notification regarding apps being used and to decide whether to remove those apps from accessing user information or not.

What should be my resolve – which you might want to consider as your course of action as well? If my account is activated, I will be removing all apps in my list. Remember those quizzes you took and shared them on Facebook? I have a lot of them and I should remove those apps to limit access. At the same time, I will be avoiding sharing even the slightly sensitive information. The best way to protect your privacy is not to share sensitive information.

In the meantime, I will be sharing my experiences and some useful information (as I deemed) here in Steemit! Happy blogging Steemians and do not forget what you should do on Monday. :D
